Until the end of June 2017, EVNHANOI has installed more than 880,000 one phase electronic meters and nearly 150,000 three -phase electronic meters among the total 2.3 million power meters in the city. In addition, the Corporation has used electronic meters for data collection via semi - automatic equipment HHU, with nearly 340,000 measurement positions.
By applying automatic reading technology, the reading of electricity meters can be done on computers by staffs of power companies without field works
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of Business Department of EVNHANOI said that application of AMR electronic meters enables EVNHANOI to transparentize their monthly meter reading works. Accordingly, power companies or departments can make available electricity consumption data as per customers’ requests at all times.
AMR technology brings obvious changes in management and operation of the power grid: installation of AMR electronic meters at measurement endpoints, utility owned substations or customer owned substations with data collection frequency of once every 30 minutes, assists management and operation staffs in following up operation parameters at each measurement point.
At peak times in the summer 2017, the remote data collection system allows operation staffs to grasp parameters on power currents, power voltages, over current status, overload status, phase differences, etc. of every substation, and thereby works out prompt remedial options to mitigate failures, secure safe and reliable electricity supply. In addition, the AMR system helps power companies quickly detect failures, and hence locate and remedy failures in a timely manner.
The AMR system enables EVNHANOI to forecast load demands, and accordingly develop monthly and yearly load curves for every area, district, and for the entire city and move forward to developing weekly and daily load curves. As a result, plans for upgrading and rehabilitating power networks are established in order to secure safe and reliable electricity supply.
Application of AMR technology contributes to improving the labor productivity of the power sector since the power sector’s staffs do not have to do any further fieldworks for reading and recording data which will be automatically transmitted to computers in the office.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung – Technical Director of 63 Ly Thai To Office Building said that previously every month, Hoan Kiem Power Company sent staffs to the Building for fixing meter data, but now since AMR technology application, meter reading is done distantly by Hoan Kiem Power Company. All the parameters are accurately transmitted in the distance.
Not only benefiting the power sector, the AMR technology benefits customers by allowing them to directly check their electricity consumption amount via EVNHANOI’s website; even the consumption statistics can be done on the monthly, quarterly basis, customers can search for their consumption data of previous years so that they can work out appropriate energy saving solutions. EVNHANOI expects that by the year 2020, the urban area in Hanoi will be equipped with 100% of electronic meters, meanwhile in suburb areas about 50% of electricity meters will be electronic ones.
