EVNHCMC: 100% of 110kV materials and equipment are CBM maintained

Previously, the entire 110kV substation and high-voltage line system of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) is repaired and maintained every 3 years. Now, with the application of new Condition-based maintenance(CBM) technology, EVNHCMC can promptly detect abnormalities of operating equipment and proactively propose a maintenance plan to prevent breakdowns.

Condition-based Maintenance (CBM) is a repair and maintenance method based on the condition of the equipment. The repair and maintenance strategy is based on equipment condition analysis through logs, historical operating parameters, and equipment condition data collected through periodic inspection/testing.

When applying CBM technology, inspection/testing items will be classified at 3 different levels. In which, level 1 is the items performed online without the need to interrupt the customer's power supply; level 2 is offline, the implementation must use additional power supply solutions, replacement support or power outage, and level 3 is more specialized analysis and diagnostic items when needed.

EVNHCMC workers perform periodic maintenance on the 110kV power grid

A set of Condition Health Index(CHI -) of each device will be scored after performing the above 3 levels, from which there will be "medical examination" results for each device and give corresponding “cure” as well as the “re-examination” time, or give an immediate replacement warning depending on the condition of the device and its importance.

EVNHCMC has piloted the CBM repair and maintenance method since 2020, until now, it has been applied to all materials and equipment in the 110kV power grid. At the same time, they fully update the implementation results into the Project Management Information System (PMIS)  for evaluation and implementation.

The Corporation is expected to pilot this method for the 22kV power grid in the fourth quarter of 2021. EVNHCMC has also issued guidance on repair and maintenance methods for materials and equipment from 110kV or less according to the CBM operating status as a basis for widespread application at its affiliated units and as a premise for applying used at other power distribution corporations in the Vietnam Electricity.

With the CBM method, the maintenance is carried out only when necessary to prevent operational deterioration or breakdowns, eliminate costly routine maintenance, and significantly reduce the probability of equipment failure. “This is an integral part of EVNHCMC’s digital transformation process and smart grid management, contributing to a stable, continuous and safe power supply for Ho Chi Minh City”, said Mr. Luan Quoc Hung – EVNHCMC Deputy General Director.
