Power distribution network supports power transmission network
During the past years, EVN has implemented a lot of programs for electric power loss mitigation. In 2016, EVN faced a lot of difficulties when power generation resources were not well balanced between the regions, the power grid stretched from the North to the South, imbalanced load distribution and inadequate investments were observed, etc. At the same time, EVN took possession of a large quantity of rural low voltage power networks which were obsolete, backward, downgraded and unsafe, etc.
Mr. Le Viet Hung – Deputy Director of Technical and Operational Department of Vietnam Electricity said: “In 2016, EVN transported a great amount of electricity in aggregate up to more than 15.8 billion kWh to the South (equivalent to 18% of the power demand of the South), which thus led to an increase in the power loss rate of the National Power Transmission Corporation to 2.36%. However, EVN maintained such a high transmission volume on the North – South 500 kV transmission line in order to efficiently harness the existing generation resources and lessen mobilization of costly generation resources in the South. As a result, the overall power system will be operated more efficiently and economically”.
Together with such a high power loss occurred in transmission network, in 2016, EVN took over a large number of rural low voltage power networks which were old, downgraded and unsafely operated, etc. Therefore, with the aim to achieving the target stated on electric power loss reduction, EVN determines to focus on instructing power corporations to strengthen their operation management, business management activities, implement power grid rehabilitation investment projects on schedule. With such synchronous remedial actions, the power loss rate of the entire Group decreased to 7.57%” – said Mr. Le Viet Hung.
Power Corporations tried their hardest to reduce power loss rate in 2016
Standing in the top 3 ASEAN countries – a feasible objective?
According to Mr. Le Viet Hung – Deputy Director of Technical and Operational Department (EVN), at present Vietnam ranks above the average among ASEAN countries in electric power loss rate index and it is targeted that until 2020, the power loss rate of Vietnam will be only 6.5%.
However, in order to diminish power loss rate in general and the loss rate of distribution network in particular, investment in and construction of power network projects should be paid most attention.
Sharing the same position, Associate Professor and Doctor Tran Dinh Long – Vice Chairman of Vietnam Electricity Association said that in order to further lessen power loss rate, EVN and her subsidiaries have systematically, synchronously, deterministically and effectively executed solutions. In addition to enhancing management and operation activities, investment activities should be intensified. With the view to obtaining the rate of 6.5% by the year 2020 comparable with some developed countries in these days, Vietnam needs to invest and develop a adequately robust power system with a high reliability and advancement similar to developed countries. Application of new technologies such as electronic power meters, remote meter reading and recording, utilization of Amorphous transformers, new technological equipment with lower power loss rate will facilitate the reduction of power loss in distribution network.
For this purpose, in 2017, EVN strives to complete and energize 222 110 kV projects and thousands of network projects with lower voltage levels; secure power system operation safely and meet the power demand for socio – economic development.
