On April 12th, in Binh Thuan province, EVNSPC in coordination with the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province organized a Conference to summarize the Program "Supporting dragon fruit growers in replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps during the period 2014 – 2016".
According to the Program, during the two years 2014 – 2016, EVNSPC has supported substitution of more than 2.06 million compact fluorescent lamps in three provinces Binh Thuan, Tien Giang and Long An. The Program has attracted over 2,320 dragon fruit planting households’ participations. Of which, Binh Thuan province has the highest number of households taking part in the Program with 1.571 households involved and more than 1.6 billion compact fluorescent lamps being substituted.
From dragon fruit growers’ economical point of view, it is estimated that 2,065,269 compact fluorescent lamps can save 54,523 MWh of energy every year in comparison with incandescent bulbs, equivalent to over VND 82 billion saving per year. Considering the service life of equipment given the fact that typical compact fluorescent lamps have a service life of 4000 hours, the saving amount converted will be equivalent to VND 500 billion. The Deputy General Director of EVNSPC Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc said that the Program has helped relieve the system capacity, contributed to securing electricity supply to the provinces; saving investment capital for power generation and network, facilitating investments in other urgent projects.
In addition, the Program helps trim down more than 200,000 tons of CO2, contributing to environmental protection.
The Program “Supporting dragon fruit growers in replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps during the period 2014 – 2016” in three provinces Binh Thuan, Tien Giang and Long An is one of the subjects within the cooperation agreement on communication and encouragement of safe, economical and efficient power consumption between Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
