Water source ensured for water supply
To ensure the water level rise downstream, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang and Thac Ba hydropower reservoirs have increased power generation from 13:00 on January 3, 2023 (about 2.5 days before intaking water). The water level of the Red River at the Hanoi hydrological station in the first phase averaged 1.56 m, with the highest level reaching 1.92 m.

At the end of the first phase, the area supplied with water was 121,942 ha/498,709 ha, reaching 24.5% of the planned crop area. The area supplied with water is 3.4% higher than that of the same period in 2021 (21.1%) but lower than that of previous years (54% in 2020, 54.4% in 2019 and 29.5% in 2018). It is expected that by the beginning of the second phase of water intake, the total area supplied with water will reach about 35-40%.
Focus on completing the water intake in phase 2
As planned, the second phase of water intake will start from February 1 to the end of February 8, 2023 (8 days in total). Vietnam Electricity will increase the operation of generating power at the maximum capacity of the units for about 2-3 days in advance, the flow will be maintained at a high level (The average water level is expected to reach about 1.8-1.9m at the Hanoi hydrological station), so the irrigation works will have favorable conditions to intake water.
At the end of the second phase, most localities will complete the plan to intake water for areas that depend on additional water sources from hydropower reservoirs.
