Energizing Lao Bao 220kV substation (Quang Tri)

At 4:30, on 30 June 2021, Central Vietnam Power Projects Management Board (CPMB), in coordination with relevant units, energized the AT2 transformer (220kV-250MVA) at Lao Bao 220kV substation (Quang Tri province). The project is ready to release capacity from wind power plants in the western part of Quang Tri province in preparation for commercial operation.

The work which is part of Lao Bao 220kV substation and Dong Ha-Lao Bao 220kV power line project is invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and managed by the Central Vietnam Power Projects Management Board (CPMB). Power Transmission Company 2 takes over the project and manages its operation when it is completed.

Lao Bao 220kV substation is located in Tan Hop commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province. The project includes building a new 220/110/22kV substation with two 250MVA transformers. In Phase 1, one transformer is installed.

Currently, 17 wind power plants in the area are registered to transmit power to Lao Bao 220kV substation. The project put into operation is critical in ensuring these wind power plants come into commercial operation before 1 November 2021 (a milestone set in Decision 39/2018/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister).

The project contributes to transmit power generated from hydropower plants in the western part of Quang Tri province to the national power system; contributing to ensure power supply to the province.

According to CPMB, the entire Dong Ha-Lao Bao 220kV transmission line is expected to be completed in August 2021, so that these wind power plants can operate efficiently and deploy their highest capacity.
