Building a digital ecosystem
In April 2021, Thuy Nguyen 220kV substation (Hai Phong) had been tested, energised, and put into operation. This is the first digital substation invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), and also the first 220kV digital substation nationwide. Digital substation is not only a new technology in Vietnam but also in advanced countries. Investing in construction of digital substations, applying achievements of the fourth industrial revolution to the power grid operation is just a breakthrough starting point of the digital transformation in the field of electricity generation and transmission.
By 2025, 100% of electrical equipment on the transmission grid will be digitized, fully updated in terms of quantity and data on PMIS Technical Management software. At the same time, artificial intelligence (AI), big data will be applied to exploit data in PMIS for maintenance and optimization of power systems. AI will also be applied in image processing and recognition technology to monitor high voltage lines, etc.

According to the Master Plan on Digital Transformation in the Vietnam National Electricity Group, EVN has identified five digital transformation fields including: generation; sales and customer service; construction investment; internal governance; telecommunications and information technology. The Master Plan also sets out 92 specific tasks which will be performed by member organizations of the Group.
EVN wishes to build up and lead this digital ecosystem, for the sake of modernization and sustainable development of Vietnam's energy industry.
