Power consumption continuously sets records
EVN's total commercial electricity in the first 6 months reached 135.64 billion kWh, up 14.26% over the same period (the forecast growth plan is 9%); in which domestic commercial electricity in the North increased by 15.71%, the Central region increased by 16.40%, and the South increased by 12.08% over the same period in 2023.
The produced and imported power output nationwide in the first 6 months reached 151.73 billion kWh, an increase of 12.4% over the same period in 2023. During the dry season (April, May, and June), the widespread hot weather in all 3 regions of the North, Central, and South led to the national power consumption continuously setting records in power capacity and output consumption.

Power plants strive to operate generators safely and reliably
Discussing with leaders of major corporations in the world at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the morning of June 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh officially continued to affirm that in 2024, even though power consumption increased by 15%, with some days exceeding 1 billion kWh, the highest in history, power supply was still ensured.
Proactive and flexible solutions
EVN has directed the power supply operation according to the plan approved by MOIT, the actual load demand, and the hydrological inflow situation. In particular, coal and gas thermal power sources (including LNG) are mobilized to the maximum. Regarding hydropower sources, in the first 5 months of the year, due to the poor hydrological inflow situation, the mobilization was limited to maintain the water level of hydropower reservoirs to ensure the power supply to the North. From the beginning of June 2024, the hydrological situation was favorable, so EVN mobilized a high level of hydropower sources.
Electricity workers apply technology to power grid management and operation
In the first 6 months of the year, power plants were closely coordinated with the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group, Dong Bac Corporation, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, and Vietnam Gas Corporation to ensure fuel (coal, gas, and oil) for power production; power corporations and the National Power Transmission Corporation proactively detected, fixed, and prevented incidents, tightens operational discipline, improves reliability and reduces power loss. In particular, power corporations have proactively monitored and followed the socio-economic development of the locality and closely forecasted local load demand. From there, make timely and realistic adjustments to power supply plans and scenarios. Thanks to that, the power grid system operates safely and reliably.
EVN has also resolutely deployed and ensured the construction investment progress of key power source and grid projects such as Hoa Binh and Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Projects, Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, power grid projects to release renewable energy sources, small hydropower, electricity purchase from Laos, power supply to the North, etc. In particular, EVN has focused all resources on deploying the investment of the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line 3 from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, which has been repeatedly praised in meetings and received letters of commendation by the Prime Minister.
At the same time, EVN and its member units have also increased propaganda on electricity saving and implemented effective propaganda measures for each power customer group.
Ensure electricity in the last 6 months of the year: Absolutely do not be subjective or negligent
The operation direct and electricity sources mobilization in the last 6 months of the year, both have met the power supply requirements in the last months of 2024 and prepared plans and scenarios for power supply in 2025.
Accordingly, EVN will continue to closely monitor meteorological and hydrological events, fuel situation, generator availability, and load growth to promptly update and adjust appropriate operating methods; ensure stable, safe, and reliable operation of the power system; be ready and timely implement measures to ensure power supply, optimize the electricity sources mobilization, combining with maximum transmission from the Central to the North; Strengthen monitoring of hydrological conditions, inflow water in each reservoir, calculate and update daily operating methods to effectively use water resources...
Power generation corporations focus on monitoring coal supply, preparing fuel reserve plans for power production and maintaining the prescribed inventory levels; preparing equipment and materials and incident handling plans to be ready and proactive in quick handling incidents; strengthening inspection and supervision of power plants, especially coal-fired power plants in the North to ensure the availability and reliability of the units. Hydropower plants operate reservoirs safely during the flood season of 2024, optimally exploit water resources, and closely monitor and forecast hydrological conditions to have early water-storing plans in the late flood season, serving power generation needs, ensuring power supply for the dry season of 2025.
In particular, EVN and its member units continue to concentrate forces at construction sites and accelerate the construction progress of key power source and grid projects; including speeding up the construction and energizing progress of the entire 500kV circuit 3 transmission line project from Quang Trach to Pho Noi in July 2024 under the direction of the Prime Minister.
