Gia Lai Power Company develops smart grid

In recent years, Gia Lai Power Company (Gia Lai PC) has focused on developing smart power grids with the application of modern technologies such as unmanned substations in management, grid operation, and installation of smart meters collecting data remotely, etc.

Thereby, the Company gradually improves power supply reliability and increases labor productivity.

Mr. Pham Anh Cuong - Head of the Technical Department (Gia Lai PC) said: The outstanding mark is that the SCADA system of the Remote Control Center has been put into operation, bringing practical effects in production and business activities. The company's business activities such as reducing equipment operation and switching time, shortening maintenance time, troubleshooting power grids, and so on.

Currently, the Company has put 13/13 110kV substations into unmanned mode; 79/79 medium voltage feeders of 22kV and 35kV already have a SCADA system installed at the feeder; 10/11 DMS distribution management system functions have been equipped; At the same time, the FLISR function put into operation (allowing the software to detect errors, isolate problems and restore the power grid scientifically and automatically without the need for operator control) for 28/79 feeders.

Along with that, 23/30 plants under 10MW are connected to the control center; 35/35 110kV feeder compartments belonging to 13 110kV substations are shared with the Central Power System Dispatch Center (A3) and the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) Monitoring Center via IEC communication protocol of 60870-5-104.

Mr. Pham Anh Cuong informed: "The company has also installed 100% of smart meters and meters with Automatic meter reading (AMR) with 452,458 units. At the same time, use the RF-SPIDER system to automatically collect remote meter readings; Using the DSPM system to collect meter data at public transformer stations, specialized customer transformer stations, boundary meters, upstream meters, and metering meters at 110kV substations and hydroelectric plants.

In addition, the Company also applies Business Intelligence-BI technology to perform a number of separate reports to serve management, operation, production, and business activities at the unit; or OMS software to compile detailed power outage information for each customer and public transformer station, supporting connection with the SCADA system and telemetry system.

In addition, OMS data can serve to analyze the problems of substations or customers losing power multiple times, causes and areas of problem concentration, capacity, and unsupplied output during power outage events".

In particular, the Company has empowered customers to look up electricity usage, electricity collection points and schedules, load charts, changes in the information, online payment, and be warned when there is an abnormality, etc, in electricity use.
