Towards sustainable development, EVN has drastically directed and required its member units to synchronously implement solutions to parallel production with environmental protection.
The development and issuance of guiding documents on environmental protection of EVN has always been regularly and timely paid attention to. According to information from EVN’s Department of Science, Technology and Environment, in the period 2016 - 2020, EVN has issued more than 120 guiding documents on environmental protection.
EVN has strictly implemented environmental management measures throughout from the investment stage, construction of project until the plants coming into operation; Investing in modern technology to treat circulating water, waste gas, ash and slag; and so on.
Specifically, all thermal power plants of EVN are invested to build a system of wastewater collection and treatment works to ensure Technical Regulations No. QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT for industrial wastewater and QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT for domestic wastewater before being discharged into the environment. Wastewater after being treated to meet standards is studied and partially reused, recycling for the production process.
For emissions from thermal power plants, EVN has invested in specialized systems to filter electrostatic dust, removing NOx, SO2. In the five years of 2016-2020, the monitoring results of environmental parameters at the plants have almost all met the Vietnamese technical regulations on emissions and wastewater. Some thermal power plants applying modern technology such as Vinh Tan 4, Duyen Hai 3 expanded thermal power plants, etc., with emission parameters much lower than the threshold of the Vietnamese technical regulations.
EVN and its units have also made great efforts in finding many solutions to treat and consume ash and slag at thermal power plants. The rate of consumption and reuse of ash and slag in power plants of EVN has increased gradually over the years. EVN has set a target that by 2022 to consume 100% of all generated thermopower ash and slag, and by 2025 to consume all ash and slag stored storage yards.
In particular, EVN has directed units to "green" the zones of thermal power plants. Thanks to the sense of responsibility and care of all employees to the environment in and around the plants, the face of thermal power plants has become more and more beautiful, many plants also become attractive destinations for many groups of tourists (before the outbreak of COVID-19).
In the coming time, EVN will actively adapt to climate change in protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; integrating climate change in the Group's development strategies, business activities, and investment in power projects, gradually reducing CO2 emissions per kWh of electric power.
