Ha Giang: Efforts to bring national grid electricity to remote villages and hamlets

Bringing national grid electricity to remote and isolated villages and hamlets in the border areas of Ha Giang province has changed and improved the lives of the people.

From now until 2025, Ha Giang province strives to have national grid electricity for all villages and hamlets. Mr. Tran Viet The - Deputy Director of the Industry and Trade Department of Ha Giang province said that rural electricity projects in the province are currently invested in construction from many different programs and capital sources such as Power supply sub-project for remote, isolated, and ethnic minority areas without national grid electricity in Ha Giang province, phase I (2014 - 2015); Power supply sub-project from the national grid to rural areas in Ha Giang province, 2018 - 2020 period - funded by the EU; Rural power supply from the national grid of Ha Giang province - Using ODA capital, preferential loans, and other capital sources (invested by the Provincial Project Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Works); and National target program on new rural construction.

Electricity to villages and hamlets has gradually changed people's lives, their economic life has been significantly improved.

As of October 2023, Ha Giang has a total of 157 power grid projects completed and under construction investment, of which: 19 projects implemented by Ha Giang Power Company have been put into operation; 54 projects invested by the Provincial People's Committee have been completed construction but have not been accepted for energization, and 84 projects are under construction investment, of which 12 projects are under Ha Giang Power Company.

The report of Ha Giang Provincial Industry and Trade Department also pointed out that in the 2022 – 2023 period, the whole Ha Giang province has 83 invested rural power supply projects, of which 64 projects supply power for daily life, production, and business, and 19 projects supply power for border villages. The total budget allocated in 2022 - 2023 is VND 145,787 million, by the end of August 2023, the total disbursed budget reached VND 97,887 million.

Of which, Ha Giang has invested in 37 power supply projects for daily life, production, and business, and 17 power supply projects for border villages to complete the electricity criteria under the new rural village criteria set according to Plan No. 262/KH-UBND dated October 24, 2022 of the Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee on the implementation of the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Ha Giang province for the 2021 – 2025 period.

In order to bring the national grid to remote and isolated villages and hamlets, meet daily needs, improve the lives, eliminate hunger, reduce poverty for the people, contribute to promoting tourism and socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security in the area, on July 15, 2024, the Project Management Board of Ha Giang Power Company organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the project: Construction of a new medium and low-voltage power grid for the northernmost point of Lung Cu commune (Dong Van district, Ha Giang province) with the project scale: Construction of 1,835km of new 35kV power line, 01 35/0.4kV distribution substation with a capacity of 100kVA, construction of 2,541km of new low-voltage power line, expected to complete the project before September 30, 2024.

With the determination to bring electricity to remote communes, Ha Giang Power Company has made efforts to bring national grid electricity to remote and isolated villages, hamlets, and areas to meet the daily needs of the people, improve their lives, reduce poverty, contribute to promoting tourism and socio-economic development in the province and ensuring political security, affirming national border sovereignty.
