Hai Phong Thermal Power Joint Stock Company is operating two thermal power plants with a total capacity of 1,200 MW. The company is investing in a project to upgrade the exhaust treatment system, with the investment objective being to meet the requirements of SO2, NOx emission parameters in compliance with the QCVN 22:2009/BTNMT standard on coal-fired power plant emissions and taking into account the adjustment of the Hai Phong City Construction Master Plan to 2025, vision to 2050.
Besides, the company currently uses about 3.4 million tons of coal/year. Imported coal through the wharf is transported to the warehouse by a closed conveyor system so that coal dust does not fly out into the environment. In addition, the company also installed a misting system in the port and storage areas to prevent air pollution.

The company's ash and slag are certified by the required process, ensuring to meet the regulations on environmental protection. Currently, the amount of ash and slag generated in the company's production process has been consumed 100%, including the amount of ash and slag in the reservoirs.
For exhaust, the company has installed an automatic monitoring system, connected online to the local Department of Natural Resources and Environment for monitoring exhaust.
The company has also built environmental protection works according to designs approved by competent authorities. In particular, the company also installed applications of advanced technologies to meet environmental requirements such as electrostatic precipitator system (ESP); Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD); hierarchical combustion technology application to minimize the possibility of NOx generation; production wastewater treatment system; domestic wastewater treatment system; oily wastewater treatment system; rainwater collection system. After being treated, the quality of exhaust gas and wastewater all meet current environmental standards as prescribed.
In particular, the company has "greened" the plant campus by planting about 12 hectares of green trees and planting casuarina trees as a dust barrier at the coal port area, coal storage, and ash and slag reservoir, protecting the environment, while beautifying the landscape of the generation area.
