In the context of international integration, the exchange and use of personnel is no longer limited to organizations, regions or countries, but expands to regional and global levels. The trend of internationalizing professional standards is increasingly popular in many countries. Not only working in the country, engineers of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) also work and cooperate with countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
Professionalisation
To be accredited as ASEAN chartered professional engineers, engineers need to meet certain standards, as well as be evaluated from their continuous professional development. EVNHCMC has carefully studied these standards, assisted and assigned tasks to engineers so that they can accumulate experience, improve capacity and skills in order to be qualified for being registered as ASEAN chartered professional engineers of AFEO.
In addition, EVNHCMC hasconducted professional, foreign language, training programs, and supported engineers to participate in training programs to obtain worklicenses for occupations requiring work licenses as per regulations. Furthermore, EVNHCMC has orientedand facilitated engineers’ directlyparticipating in and undertaking important technical tasks to achieve the required experience standards.
Currently, EVNHCMC has 148 engineers accredited as ASEAN chartered professional engineers, accounting for 46% of the total 322 ASEAN chartered professional engineers in Vietnam.

Improving ability to work independently
ASEAN chartered professional engineers can participate in AFEO specialized groups to exchange professionally with colleagues in the region. Besides, they can join in presentations on the forums of AFEO. ASEAN chartered professional engineers all meet the qualifications and conditions to be able to practice their professions in all ASEAN countries.
According to the experience shared by countries having ASEAN chartered professional engineers, many engineers have practiced their professions abroad such as Malaysia, Singapore, etc. On the side of EVNHCMC, the corporationhas dispatched many ASEAN chartered professional engineers to work within the framework of cooperation projects in the power industry, such as theconsulting project to apply advanced condition based maintenance method(CBM) to distribution grids (in cooperation with Malaysian power corporation); deploying live line working technology for the first time on 110 kV power lines in Vietnam (in cooperation with Indonesian power corporation).
