Ho Chi Minh City: There will be no power shortage in this hot and sunny season.

Ho Chi Minh city is entering into the most severe time of dry season as temperature rises ever more. Whether the city would face power shortage that requires alternating power outages or not?

EVNHCMC is intensifying inspection and maintenance of their power network before the hot season comes

Supplying sufficient electricity for production – business activities and residential uses

Mr. Nguyen Huu Vinh, Deputy Director of Sai Gon Power Company said:  “An increasing trend has been observed in the load situation from the beginning of this April until now, particularly loads on two days April 11th and 12th increased by 20%. Both loads for residential uses and for services climb up, although the peak capacity to serve electricity demands of District 1 and District 3 attained 320 MW. The Company has achieved a reserve capacity at 420 MW, rising by nearly 30% over the same period last year. In order to secure sufficient electricity provision during this time, the Company has invested in 10 more public transformers to supply electricity to the areas where local overloading signals appear”.

In Tan Binh district, an upsurge in the loads of residential and service customers is experienced. The Tan Binh Power Company informed that although loads grow at almost 20%, the number of faults due to trips of automatic circuit breakers at customers’ houses is ignorable, one or two cases per day on average. 800 transformers have been calibrated and their loading capabilities have been measured to avoid overload situations, 22 underground cable nodes have been completely inspected and handled to avoid possible failures, 389 points of interconnections have been thermally controlled for fire and explosion protection, etc.

In the press release delivered in the afternoon of April 13th, Mr. Pham Quoc Bao, Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation affirmed: “Electricity supply sufficiently meets the power demand for production – business activities and residential uses of the people in Ho Chi Minh City. The peak load in the dry season last year was 78 million kWh per day, now we are prepared for up to 85 million kWh per day, so the loads these days of 72 million kWh per day are not very stressful. The people can be absolutely assured”.

Hence electricity supply is enough for cooling off, a major concern now is the awareness of energy saving of each household with a view to saving electricity cost as well as preventing fire and explosion cases that may happen due to carelessness.
