Hydropower reservoirs have discharged 4.17 billion m3 of water, more than 82% of the cultivated area of winter - spring crop has water

At the end of the phase 2 of water supply (at 24h on February 2, 2021), the hydropower reservoirs of Vietnam Electricity (Hoa Binh, Thac Ba and Tuyen Quang) had discharged a total of 4.17 billion m3 of water for serving the 2020 - 2021 winter - spring crop cultivation in the Northern Midlands and Delta provinces. According to the General Department of Water Resources, the progress of water collection for cultivation in some areas is still slow.

Mr. Luong Van Anh - Deputy Director of the General Department of Water Resources (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: During the water discharge time, Vietnam Electricity performed maximum operation of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba and Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plants to replenish water for downstream areas. The water level at the Hanoi Hydrological Station in the first 3 days of the second phase of water discharge had not reached the required water level (2.0m), but it improved in the following days, reaching over 2.0m in some times.

The total discharge from hydropower reservoirs in both phases is 4.17 billion m3 of water (1.43 billion m3 in phase 1, and 2.74 billion m3 in phase 2). In which, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant has discharged about 2.86 billion m3 of water, Thac Ba Hydropower discharging 0.49 billion m3 of water and Tuyen Quang Hydropower about 0.82 billion m3 of water.

The localities are taking advantage of water resources being discharged for crop cultivation

According to the General Department of Water Resources, the area with water by the end of phase 2 is 430,401 ha, achieving 82.4% of the planned cultivated area, an increase of 61.3% compared to the end of phase 1.
