PECC2 proposes to install energy storage equipment in the North

Research for the installation of a Better energy storage system (BESS) at northern load centers was the main content at the meeting of EVN’s General Director Tran Dinh Nhan and Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2 ), on 11 November 2021. The meeting took place online.

As reported at the meeting, PECC2 said that the option of installing power storage devices at load centers will contribute to solving the situation of local overload. This solution is both centralized, flexible and easy to be controlled.

EVN’s General Director chaired the meeting from the online conference of EVN headquarters in Hanoi.

In addition to increasing the power supply to the system during peak days and night modes through a flexible charge/discharge operation mechanism, the BESS system can function in the power system with its capabilities of frequency control, pressurization and power backup in emergency situations.

The BESS system is also equipped with a monitoring, control and protection system designed for customized purposes to ensure safe and reliable operation, meeting the needs of use. In addition, the BESS system will be connected to the control system of the associated substation, which is connected to the dispatching centers via the SCADA system, which can be controlled in place or remotely.

In addition, the BESS system can be easily changed in wattage, capacity or transported to another location as required, solving local overload.

PECC2 also recommends locations for BESS installation at overloaded and full load 110kV lines and transformer locations in the period 2021-2025. The selection of capacity scale, capacity and configuration of BESS at each location will be performed in each specific project.

PECC2 also calculates capacity, charge/discharge cycle, along with other parameters, payback time, and relevant technical characteristics for 110kV BESS systems in Northern load centers.
