In January 2023, Vietnam Electricity ensured a safe and continuous supply of power, serving socio-economic development and meeting the people's daily needs. In particular, EVN has ensured a safe and stable power supply during the Lunar New Year of the year 2023.

In January 2023, it is the Tet holiday time, so power consumption across the country decreased. Power production of the whole system in January 2023 reached 18.36 billion kWh, decreasing by 12.5% compared to the same period in 2022, of which the ratio of mobilization of some types of power sources to the total power output of the whole system is as follows:

+ Hydropower reached 5.5 billion kWh, accounting for 30%.

+ Coal thermal power reached 7.58 billion kWh, accounting for 41.3%.

+ Gas-turbine power reached 1.88 billion kWh, accounting for 10.2%.

+ Renewable energy reached 2.98 billion kWh, accounting for 16.2% (of which solar power reached 1.70 billion kWh, wind power reached 1.21 billion kWh).

+ Imported power reached 368 million kWh, accounting for 2.1%.

In January 2023, the power produced by EVN and Power Generation Corporations (including joint stock companies) reached 6.79 billion kWh, accounting for 36.98% of the power production of the whole system.

EVN has also organized the maximal operation of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba and Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plants to supplement water sources at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and at the same time ensure power supply for pumping stations and in-field pumping operations to serve the rice cultivation of the Winter-Spring crop 2022 - 2023 for the Northern Midland and Delta provinces. As calculated for the two phases of water intake for rice cultivation (12 days), the total amount of water discharged from hydropower reservoirs is 3.62 billion m3, saving 1.14 billion m3 of water compared to the plan. The total area supplied with water is 476,297 ha/498,359 ha, reaching 95.6% of the planned planting area. Areas that have not yet received enough water will continue to be supplied with water by the local authority with field pumping stations.

Construction investment: In January 2023, EVN and its units commenced 01 110kV project; completed energizing and put into operation 06 power grid projects from 110 kV to 500 kV.

Digital transformation: Units throughout EVN have completed 96.97% of the plan of digital transformation in the two years 2021-2022, in which some areas have been completed at a high rate such as internal administration (99.9%), business and customer service (100%), construction investment (100%), production (95.93%).

Due to the sudden increase in the price of input fuel for power production from the beginning of 2022, while the retail electricity price has remained unchanged from 2019 until now, the financial situation of EVN has faced many difficulties, not ensuring financial balance.

Some working tasks of EVN in February 2023

The objective of electricity system operation in February 2023: Continuing to ensure the power generation and supply for production, business activities and people's daily life. At the same time, in order to reduce difficulties in operating the power system, Vietnam Electricity continues to advise people, offices and producers to pay attention to using electricity safely and economically.

Construction investment: In February 2022, completion of signing a credit contract worth VND 2,400 billion for the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion Project; For power grid projects, focusing on completing and energizing the Nam Mo - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line; completing the energizing works of Bo Y Switching Station and connecting and expanding Phuoc Thai 220kV substation and connecting 110kV lines; completing the clearance of  the corridor of the 220kV transmission line connecting the 220kV Bac Quang substation; completing projects to increase the load  capacity of transmission lines in the Northwest region, enhance the capacity of releasing hydropower sources in the Northwest; completing 110kV branches connecting 220kV Bac Quang substation, increasing the load capacity of the 110kV Lao Cai - Coc Xan transmission line, and the 2-line circuit of 110kV Than Uyen - 220kV Than Uyen substations to enhance the capacity to release small hydropower sources, support the demand for loads in the North during the hot season, and so on.
