EVN's hydropower reservoirs discharge 3.269 billion m3 of water to serve rice cultivation in Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024

According to the Department of Irrigation (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), at the end of the second phase of water collection for rice cultivation in the Winter-Spring crop of 2024-2025 in the Midlands and Northern Delta region, the total discharge volume of hydropower reservoirs in this phase was 3.269 billion m3 of water.
In which, the second phase of water collection for rice cultivation in the Winter-Spring crop of 2024-2025 was carried out as planned, starting from 0:00 on 8 February 2025 to 24:00 on 14 February 2025 (a total of 7 days). To raise the downstream water level, before the start of the water collection schedule, the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited mobilized the maximum operation of the hydropower plants: Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang to supplement water for the downstream from 2:00 p.m. on 5 February 2025.

The average water level at the Hanoi hydrological station from 8 February 2025 to 11 February 2025 (first 4 days) reached 1.58 m, the highest was 2.30 m on 10 February 2025; the average water level at the Son Tay hydrological station from 12 February 2025 to 14 February 2025 (last 3 days) was 1.49 m.
The total discharge volume of hydropower reservoirs in the second phase was 1.906 billion m3 of water; The total discharge volume of the first and second phases was 3.269 billion m3.
By the end of phase 2 (14 February 2025), the total area that has collected water is 473,941 ha/488,615 ha, reaching 97.0% of the planned rice cultivation area. The provinces that have not completed 100% of the area include Bac Ninh (98%), Vinh Phuc (93%), Hai Duong (93%), and Hanoi (90%). The locality will continue to supply enough water in the areas through field pumping stations or proactively water sources.
