The World Bank delegation also included Ms. Kathy Whimp, Operations Manager of WB Projects in Vietnam, East Asia, and the Pacific; Ms. Zayra Romo, Lead Energy Specialist, Infrastructure Program Coordinator, and Head of the Energy Team at WB Vietnam, along with senior energy experts from the WB Vietnam team.

On behalf of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the meeting was attended by EVN Vice President Nguyen Xuan Nam and leaders from EVN’s specialized departments.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the Renewable Energy Acceleration and Grid Enhancement (REACH) project, assessing the progress of ongoing initiatives and outlining key priorities for the next phase. The dialogue centered on expediting project implementation, ensuring strict adherence to legal frameworks, and optimizing financial resource mobilization to drive the project's success.

The REACH project plays a pivotal role in strengthening grid operations and transmission capacity, seamlessly integrating renewable energy sources, and fostering sustainable energy development. It also aims to attract private sector investments in renewable energy infrastructure, contributing to a stable and resilient power supply as Vietnam accelerates its energy transition.

Chairman of EVN Board of Directors Dang Hoang An underscored the strategic significance of the REACH project and other major investment initiatives, affirming EVN’s commitment to working closely with relevant ministries and agencies to overcome financial and regulatory hurdles.

In addition to project implementation, discussions also delved into ODA financing mechanisms and regulatory policies governing investments in transmission infrastructure and power system operations.

Expressing optimism about future collaboration, EVN’s Chairman emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the World Bank to advance Vietnam’s long-term energy strategy.

The REACH project comprises two essential components. The first focuses on reinforcing the transmission network for renewable energy integration, including the 500kV Krongbuk-Tay Ninh 1 Transmission Line, the 500kV Bac Chau Duc Substation and its connections, and the 220kV Phuoc Dong Substation. The second component is dedicated to enhancing power system operations management, specifically through Phase 4 of the SCADA/EMS project.
