This is a proud milestone made by employee generations of Phu My Thermal Power Company in particular and Vietnam Electricity in general.
Construction of these power plants, which use gas extracted from oil wells of White Tiger oilfield, started in 1997 to serve the construction and development of the country.
Over 23 years of construction and development, from two simple cycle gas turbine generating units with a total capacity of 288MW (1997), up to now, the company has managed and operated four combined cycle gas turbine power plants with 13 generating units, the total capacity is 2,540MW, accounting for about 4.54% of the capacity of the Vietnamese power system.
Phu My Thermal Power Company plays an important role in supplying power to the national power system
Every year, Phu My Power Plants supply the national power system with about 16 billion kWh, accounting for more than 18% of the energy output in the South and more than 6% of the energy output of the whole power system.
In recent years, power demand is continually increasing, especially during hot weather, while gas sources are not enough to meet the capacity of operating power plants and continue to decline. Facing such a situation, Phu My Thermal Power Company has implemented well solutions such as: minimizing failures; improving, upgrading, maintaining/increasing capacity, efficiency, ensuring availability and reliability of operating equipment systems; optimal price offering on the electricity market; applying scientific and technological solutions in management, improving labor productivity, etc. to optimize operation in lack of natural gas condition, always responding to oil-fired operation according to the mobilization of National Load Dispatch Center.
To supplement the declining natural gas amount, under the direction of Power Generation Corporation 3, Phu My Thermal Power Company carries out procedures of bidding, negotiating and signing contracts of buying regasificated LNG.
