Power consumption increases, Ministry of Industry and Trade adjusts 2024 dry season power supply plan

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Decision No. 924/QD-BCT, dated 19 April 2024, approving adjustments to the plan of power supply and national power system operation in 2024 and the power supply plan for dry season peak month (April, May, June) in 2024.

Specifically, the total power output generated by power plants (at generator terminals) and imported nationwide in 2024 in Clause 1, Article 1 of Decision No. 3110/QD-BCT is adjusted to be 310.6 billion kWh, of which the dry season is 150.916 billion kWh and the rainy season is 159.684 billion kWh.

Total power output generated by power plants (at generator terminals) and imported nationwide in the dry season peak months (April, May, June, July) in 2024 for operating reserves to ensure power supply for the national power system in Article 1 of Decision No. 3376/QD-BCT, adjusted to 111.468 billion kWh.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned Vietnam Electricity to announce updated power supply plans for the dry season peak months and the whole year 2024 for investors of power plants and related units so that units proactively plan and prepare appropriate reserves for power generation; Every month (especially during peak period of the dry season), EVN reviews and updates data, calculates and updates the Plan of power supply and national power system operation for the remaining months in 2024. In case of large fluctuations in load or power source, EVN reports to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for appropriate adjustments.

At the same time, The Ministry of Industry and Trade also directed the National Load Dispatch Center, the National Power Transmission Corporation, and power generation and distribution units under their management to take all measures and be ready for all highest conditions to ensure power in 2024, especially during the dry season peak.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade requests Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, and Dong Bac Corporation to strengthen coordination with EVN, investors of thermal power plants to ensure fuel supply (coal, gas, oil) fully, continuously and stably for power generation needs and strictly implement commitments in signed commercial and fuel supply contracts/agreements.

Investors of power plants proactively negotiate with fuel suppliers to agree on a fuel supply plan (with the highest reserve calculation for the dry season) to ensure a sufficient, continuous, and stable supply of fuel for electricity production, by the mobilization plan of the National Load Dispatch Center; Strengthen inspection and consolidation of equipment, overcome defects, ensure improved operational reliability and power generation capacity of generator units; Absolutely do not let incidents occur due to subjective reasons.

Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities under Central strengthen coordination with power corporations and local power companies to strengthen propaganda and implementation of Directive No. 20/2023/CT-TTg dated 8 June 2023 of the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving in the period 2023-2025 and following years; Organize and supervise the implementation of electricity saving locally.

In the first 3 months of 2024, the power production output of the whole system reaches 69.4 billion kWh, an increase of 11.8% over the same period in 2023.
