Quang Tri province is viewed as having great potential for developing energy projects, especially wind and solar power projects. Out of 31 wind power projects that have been approved to be included in the master plan, 2 projects (with a total capacity of 60MW) have come into operation; 25 projects (with a total capacity of 987.2MW) have obtained investment approval decisions issued by Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee and under construction. According to investors’ reports, all these 25 projects are scheduled to be put into operation before 31 October 2021.
Wind power projects in Quang Tri province are rushing to be completed.
Development status of wind power projects in Quang Tri:
- 84 wind power projects have been proposed with a total capacity of about 4,030.85MW. Including:
+ 31 projects with a total capacity of 1,177.2MW have been approved to be included in the master plan by the Ministry of Industry and Trade;
+ 53 projects with a total capacity of 2,853.65MW have been submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for consideration and being added to the master plan.
- 8 projects with a total capacity of 1,620MW are in the stage of research, survey, preparing documentation for being included in the master plan.

Wind power projects are mainly located in Huong Hoa district. In recent time, Quang Tri Power Company has directed its affiliated power grid operation management units to coordinate in project survey, concluding connection agreements and acceptance of power supply projects to serve the construction of wind power projects, creating the best conditions for investors to accelerate their project construction progress.
Along with that, the company has coordinated in surveying and setting up a technical plan for elevating power lines across roadways on roads serving the transportation of wind power equipment. These are super-long and super-heavy equipment transported on routes from Hon La port (Quang Binh) and Cua Viet port (Quang Tri) to locations of wind power projects in Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri), Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts (Quang Binh). Specifically, the company has elevated conductors at more than 40 crossing locations, ensuring the minimum elevation of the 0.4kV low voltage line across the roadway at 6.8m, and the minimum elevation of the 22kV medium voltage line across the roadway at 8.3m, the minimum elevation of 35kV medium voltage line across the roadway at 9.3m, and the minimum height of 110kV high voltage line across the roadway at 10.3m.
In order to promptly complete the transmission system to absorb power from wind power plants, Quang Tri PC has closely worked with the Central Power Projects Management Board (CPMB) under the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and related organizations to make plans and cut off electricity for construction of Dong Ha - Lao Bao 220kV transmission line on schedule. Quang Tri PC has also participated in the acceptance test of 110kV feeders connecting to 110 kV busbars of Lao Bao 220kV substation. The timely energizing of Lao Bao 220kV substation of EVNNPT/CPMB will be the pre-requisite for the commercial operation (COD) of ongoing wind power projects.
