Quang Ninh province is the main concentration of coal-fired power sources in the North. Currently, the province has 7 thermal power plants (TPP) with a total installed capacity of 5,375MW. In which, the plants of EVN have a total capacity of about 3,000MW. In the first 4 months of the year, EVN's thermal power plants achieved an output of 6.548 billion kWh, equal to 99% of the plan and 120% of the same period in 2021.
For EVN, this is also one of the provinces with the highest number of power customers and commercial power output in the country. The total number of EVN customers here is over 445,000 customers with a total commercial power output of about 5 billion kWh in 2021. Particularly in the first four months of 2022, commercial power output reached 1.54 billion kWh, up 7.35% over the same period in 2021.

According to EVN, the industrial and consumer management loads in Quang Ninh have a large proportion, especially tourism, hotel, restaurant and industrial park loads. Basically, the 110kV power grid in Quang Ninh area in the past time has ensured power supply for the loads. However, with the capacity demand increasing in the coming time, EVN and its subsidiaries are investing in many 110-220kV power grid projects to meet the socio-economic development needs of Quang Ninh province. EVN proposed the Quang Ninh provincial People's Committee continue to create conditions and support power units in the power projects’ investment and construction according to the plan. In particular, it is necessary to complete the land handover for EVN and its member units’ power grid projects according to the set schedule.

Affirming that the economic development speed of Quang Ninh province in the coming time will be very strong leading to the power demand will increase, the Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee wished that the Power sector should continue to pay attention to investing in power grid projects to meet the development needs of the province, and at the same time, Vinacomin closely cooperates with EVN's power plants to ensure coal supply for production.
On this occasion, leaders of EVN, Vinacomin and Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee signed the "cooperation memorandum between Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, and Vietnam Electricity on implementing tasks and solutions to support and remove difficulties for the coal and power industries; at the same time ensuring stability for enterprises’ production and business activities and daily-life needs of people in Quang Ninh province in the 2022 – 2025 period.
