Building an online power loss calculation tool
In the past time, the live-live power repair work of EVNHCMC has also contributed to ensuring the reliability of power supply and minimizing breakdowns.
With the desire to master technology, with efforts and internal human resources, EVNHCMC has successfully built an online power loss calculation system (OPLCS) and put it into effective operation management from 2020 until now.
To build an OPLCS, EVNHCMC's engineering team has started to perform 3 main tasks: building integrated models, standardizing data from many different telemetry systems, sharing data between programs; determining the principles of online power loss calculation; automatically updating changes affecting calculation results.
All results of calculating power loss rates are associated with statistical information at the time of calculation, including the ratio of measuring points with telemetry, connection ratio (online/offline); with/without grid fluctuations, measurement point fluctuations; operation warning, abnormal warning of the metering system. Based on that, EVNHCMC has built a smart filtering principle and selected the optimal calculation results for the online power loss rate to display on the program, and at the same time connected it to the intelligent reporting system of BI to provide information to support decision-making. For unselected calculation results, influencing factors such as high disconnection telemetry rate, large divisor ratio, variation in method, etc., are listed to help zoning and handling defects easily.
With the application of digital technology, the OPLCS provides 4 functions, including: Firstly, automatically calculating the power loss rate of each medium voltage line by day; each distribution substation by week; the entire medium and low voltage grid by day; selecting the optimal calculation result. Secondly, it helps to warn of anomalies that affect the calculated power loss rate. Thirdly, the system has the function of statistics and synthesis of results of calculating the rate of power loss for each medium voltage line, each public distribution station (after optimal results have been filtered) and classified by "allowed" thresholds, displayed in different colors for monitoring and management at the Power Company as well as centralized management at the corporation level. Fourthly, the system has the function of providing information to the BI intelligence reporting system (smart portal).
EVNHCMC has successfully built and effectively put into operation an online power loss ratio calculation system for the entire power grid.
Continue to master and apply new technologies
After 2 years of implementation, up to now, EVNHCMC has successfully built and effectively put into operation an OPLCS for the entire power grid. The system can accurately manage the area loss of nearly 750 medium voltage lines and more than 31,000 distribution substations. Thereby, it helps the loss reduction implementation to be carried out accurately, with focus and due care, contributing to the sustainable reduction of power loss.
According to EVNHCMC Chairman Pham Quoc Bao, the effective exploitation of smart grid applications is the foundation for EVNHCMC to achieve good results in performing 4 main tasks including improving the reliability of power supply, reducing power loss, improving labor productivity and quality of customer service. In particular, the smart grid application is the foundation for Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation to achieve good results in reducing power loss over time.
The smart grid has helped reduce EVNHCMC's power loss in 2022 to 2.93%, a deep decrease compared to that in 2010 (5.82%).
