Duong Quang Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Members Council of Vietnam Electricity, stated at the signing ceremony: "Vietnam Electricity is responsible for ensuring that, besides supplying electricity for socio-economic development of the country, it is also an important political task to bring electricity to remote, rural, mountainous and island areas to contribute to economic development and maintain national security, defense and sovereignty. Over the past years, EVN has received, managed and operated thousands of billion VND to supply electricity to 9/12 island districts o the whole country: Van Don District, Co To (Quang Ninh), Cat Hai, Bach Long Vy (Hai Phong), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan), Con Dao (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), Phu Quoc, Kien Hai (Kien Giang). Today, EVN is honored to receive power system of Truong Sa, making it the 10th islands. The government will also entrust the grid of Con Co island district (Quang Tri province) to EVN. Thus, in 2017, EVN will receive, manage and operate electricity supply for 11/12 island districts nationwide, contributing significantly to the construction and protection of the island sovereignty and the development of the island economy ".
Due to its geographic location, being far from the mainland with many islands and island points stretching across vast sea, the supply of electricity to Truong Sa Islands and the DK1 will be much more difficult than on other islands. After assessing the quality and condition of the equipment on the whole Truong Sa and DK1 power system, preliminary estimation of total investment for repair and replacement to repair and upgrade the equipment will cost about 145 billion. Implementing the guideline of the Party and State, according to the direction of the Prime Minister, the Navy Command handed over clean energy and lighting system on the islands of Truong Sa and DK1 to EVN to manage and operate to meet the demand for electricity and to improve the quality of life for soldiers and residents on the islands, improving the effectiveness of defense capability to protect the sovereignty of the sea island of the country.
At the ceremony, EVN and Nay Command signed a Cooperation Agreement on power supply on the islands to supply stable and ready electricity for the living and working of the soldiers and people on the islands, contributing to maintaining national security and defense, protecting the sovereignty and economic development of the sea islands.
