The 500 kV North-South transmission system plays a key role in regulation. Also, It is always operated in a high load scheme.
According to Mr. Le Phan Vinh – Director of EVNNPT Technical Department, in order to ensure the power supply for the last months of this year and the dry season of 2017, especially in the southern region, the National Power Transmission Corporation is actively deploying quite a few sync solutions. Namely, enhance operational discipline; implement the plan of periodic testing and maintenance of substation equipment; investigate the causes of faults; prepare the list of important lines and substations to be specially monitored; prepare supplies, backup equipment and forces of construction, maintenance and testing to respond to possible faults and abnormal situations on the grid. In particular, EVNNPT is also actively applying scientific and technological advancements, new technologies in the field of power transmission such as remote control technology, unmanned substation, hotline insulator cleaning, live working maintenance for lines and substations, etc., in order to modernize the national power transmission system.

Accelerating the progress of the projects
On September 4, 2016, EVNNPT completed the project of installing twelve 500 kV shunt reactors at eight 500 kV substations. This result has contributed to improving flexibility in adjusting the voltage on the power system in general and the 500kV grid in particular, reducing transmission losses and enhancing transmission capacity of the 500 kV North-South transmission line. In addition, EVNNPT completed the energization of many important projects such as: 500 kV Pho Noi, Pleiku 2, My Tho substations, 500 kV Son La substation capacity upgrading. It can be said that this is a great effort made by EVNNPT in spite of obstacles in land acquisition, site clearance and financing arrangement.
However, to ensure safe and efficient power supply to the South in 2017 and the subsequent years, EVNNPT has been continuing to accelerate the progress of the 220 kV- 500 kV transmission line projects, upgrading the capacity and installing shunt reactors for the substations. Especially, EVNNPT is also urgently finalizing the preparation for construction investment of the 500 kV Vung Ang- Doc Soi – Pleiku in order to increase the transmission capacity from the North to the Central region of about 5 billion kWh per year.
