Successfully energizing Thanh Hoa 500kV Substation and its connections Project

At 5:41 p.m. on 28 June 2024, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB) in coordination with relevant units energized the Thanh Hoa 500kV Substation and its connections Project.

The Thanh Hoa 500kV substation is one of the important component projects of the Quang Trach - Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant – Pho Noi 500kV circuit-3 transmission line project, helping to enhance safe power transmission to the North.

The Thanh Hoa 500kV substation is located in Thieu Tien and Thieu Phuc communes, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province (located in the middle of the entire Quang Trach - Pho Noi 500kV circuit-3 transmission line project). The 220kV connection line passes through the communes of Thieu Phuc, Thieu Van, Thieu Vien, Thieu Ly, Hau Hien town, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province.

The project has a total project investment of about VND 1,444 billion, with EVNNPT as the investor. CPMB is assigned to manage and operate the project. The project was constructed and designed by Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3. Power Transmission Company 1 will take over and manage the operation when the project is completed.

The project is a newly built 500/220kV substation with a scale of three 500/220/35kV transformers with a capacity of 600MVA for each transformer. The current phase is installing two 600MVA transformers.

The 500kV side is designed with 10 bays including 7 line bays, 3 transformer bays, and a redundancy position for the busbar segment bay. The 220kV side is designed according to the diagram of two ring-connected busbars, with the full scale including 21 bays.

The 220kV connection line is built as a new 4-circuit line from the 500kV Thanh Hoa substation to the connection point on the  Nong Cong - Thanh Hoa 220kV power lines (about 7.5 km long).

Along with that, the Project also received drastic and regular attention and direction from EVN and EVNNPT leaders and the working spirit of "overcoming sun, overcoming rain", "3 shifts, 4 crews" of CPMB’s engineers and workers, contractors, and support from power companies, so the project has now been completed 2 days ahead of the planned schedule.

“For a 500kV substation, the construction time is usually 365 days, but the Thanh Hoa 500kV Substation (construction from 18 January  2024) was completed in just 5 months and 10 days. This has shown the high determination and great efforts of EVN and EVNNPT leaders on the construction site.” EVNNPT Vice President Truong Huu Thanh said.

Completion of the Project helps enhance the supply power ability of Thanh Hoa province and the North Central region; transmit power generated from regional power sources into the national power system through 220kV and 500kV synchronous power grids; improve system reliability, increase power supply capacity of 500kV, 220kV power source, meeting the socio-economic development needs of the region.
