This is a great encouragement of the Government and the Prime Minister for the efforts made by the entire staff of the electricity sector who are determined to follow the Prime Minister's direction on their active and joint action with the people throughout the country to fight off the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure power supply in all situations.
EVN and its member units have been making great efforts to complete the dual-task, both ensuring power supply and joining hands with the whole country to prevent COVID-19.
Electricity of Vietnam and its units have urgently implemented the reduction in electricity price and electricity bill for customers affected by COVID-19. The support is implemented in power usage cycles starting in April, May and June. At the same time, the exemption/reduction of electricity charges directly for treatment and isolation facilities serving the prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic to buy power from EVN's units was immediately implemented.
The total estimated support amount is about VND 11,000 billion for: 26.6 million households using power for daily activities (reducing 10% of the retail price from level to level 4); more than 2 million manufacturing and trading customers (reducing 10% of electricity retail price); tourist accommodation establishments (reducing electricity prices through the application of electricity prices for manufacturing industries instead of the current trading prices).
As of 12 May 2020, 12.4 million customers were issued discount invoices (accounting for 43.94% of customers) with a total reduction amount of VND 1,739.3 billion.
In the context of COVID-19 pandemic, EVN has pushed up the provision of online electrical services, whereby the ratio of non-cash payment for electricity reached 81.96%. Since February 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic has not broken out until April 2020, the demand for electricity services received through the National Public Service Portal has increased by 8.2 times, the rate of online transactions via Internet also increased by 4.5 times.
After the Prime Minister’s instruction in easing the social distancing, the production and business activities were gradually restored, so the demand for electricity increased again, of which the average daily power production in the first week of May 2020 increased by 15% compared to that April 2020. EVN has developed a plan to ensure the power supply for the remaining months with electricity demand in accordance with the plan at the beginning of the year approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and at the same time ensure enough power capacity for production activities when re-activating and expanding the scope.
In addition, EVN and its member units continue to focus on implementing urgent grid works to release all solar power sources that have been put into operation, especially in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan areas.
