This is one of the main summarized contents of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) at the Conference on reviewing the performance in 2019 and deploying the plan for 2020. The conference took place on 25 December 2019, in Hanoi.

Supplying adequate electric power to the country with increasing quality.

By the end of 2019, the total installed capacity of the power system had reached 54,880MW. The scale of Vietnam's power system ranks 2nd in ASEAN (after Indonesia) and 23rd in the world.

Generated and purchased power output of EVN in 2019 reached 231.1 billion kWh, an increase of 8.85% compared to that in 2018. In which, power output from power plants of Holding company of EVN was 41.55 billion kWh.

Commercial power in 2019 reached 209.42 billion kWh, an increase of 8.87% compared to 2018’s. The management of generation and operation of the power system and power market has followed up the demand for load and optimally exploited power sources in the system.

Customer services have made some positive changes, providing online services at the Public Administration Center or public service portal in 63 provinces/cities. Since December 2019, EVN has provided services of supplying medium/low voltage grid power as well as power payment via the National Public Service Portal, creating favourable conditions for customers and increasing transparency in transactions. Hence, the access-to-electricity index listed in the group of ASEAN 4.

In terms of cost savings, the Group's member units have strictly implemented saving practice and avoiding wastefulness, so they have saved up VND 1,524 billion (equivalent to 7.5% of the fixed cost). Saved value by procurement is about VND 13,266 billion (including production and business expenses as well as investment costs) equivalent to the saving amount of 16.4%.

The power loss in 2019 of the whole Group is estimated at 6.5%, 0.2% lower than the plan and 1 year ahead of the 5-year plan assigned by the Prime Minister. The productivity of power generation and business of the Group reached 2.41 million kWh/person, an increase of 10% compared to 2018’s.

EVN has preserved and developed state capital, the consolidated asset value of the whole EVN estimated at the end of 2019 is VND 712,678 billion (an increase of VND 6,174 billion compared to 2018’s), of which the equity is VND 219,092 billion (increasing  by VND 1,646 billion).

Profit of the Holding company of EVN is estimated at VND 950 billion, meeting the target of the assigned plan. EVN’s member companies have realized the profit plan. The budget contribution of the whole Group in 2019 is VND 27,200 billion, an increase of VND 2,089 billion compared to that of 2018.

In the task of construction investment, the Group has well implemented the investment in assigned power projects, completed many important projects, contributing to improving the capacity of power supply infrastructure such as: completing commercial power generation for Vinh Tan 4 Expansion Thermo-power Plant (600MW) 3 months ahead of  schedule; energizing Duyen Hai 3 Expansion Thermo-power Plant (688MW). The units have completed 3 solar power plants with a total capacity of 140.15MWp.

The whole Group has commenced 196 works and completed 192 power grid works from 110kV to 500kV. In which, some important works have been completed such as: synchronizing power grid of Vinh Tan Power Center, Long Phu, Hai Duong Thermo-power Plant, Song Hau 1, relieving the load for hydro-power plants in Lai Chau area and some works of load relief for renewable energy plants in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, and so on.

Focusing on comprehensively completing the plan for the 2016-2020 period

This is the 2020 theme of EVN for striving to meet and surpass the tasks and targets of EVN's 5-year plan of 2016-2020 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 219/QD-TTg dated 13 February 2018.

To achieve the targets and complete the plans for 2020, the Group shall implement some tasks: Developing monthly power supply plans to operate the power system safely and reliably, as well as exploit efficiently power sources; Preparing solutions to cope with adverse situations; Taking the initiative in supplying and importing coal and gas for power generation; Coordinating closely with the General Department of Irrigation, localities to supply water for the cultivation of the Winter-Spring crop of 2019-2020 to ensure the highest efficiency. Besides, it is planned to tightening the operational discipline not to cause any subjective incidents.

Ensuring the progress and quality of investment in power sources and power grids, striving to complete: Thuong Kon Tum Hydro -power Plant and 4 solar power projects (249MWp), including: Phuoc Thai 1, Se San 4, Phuoc Thai 2, Phuoc Thai 3 and commence 2 projects: Quang Trach I Thermo-power Plant and Hoa Binh Expansion Hydro-power Plant.

Speeding up the investment progress of important power projects assigned by the Government, including completing the preparation of investment, arrangement of capital to commence projects in 2021 such as Ialy expansion hydro-power plant, O Mon IV Thermo-power Plant and Dung Quat I Thermo-power Plant.

Commencing 218 works and completing 240 works of 110-500kV power grid, in which focusing on investing in such key works as: Vung Ang 500kV transmission line - Doc Soi - Pleiku 2 (completed in June 2020); synchronous Thermo-power grid of BOT Hai Duong and Nghi Son 2; relieving renewable energy sources and Tay Bac hydro power sources; connecting power grid the power source from Laos to Vietnam; key projects of supplying power to the South and Hanoi as well as other important loads.

The Group continues to promote business restructuring, reorganization, renovation, perfecting the organizational structure of production in accordance with the Government's orientation of restructuring the electricity sector as well as continue to improve the quality of customer services.
