Vietnam and the Russian Federation strengthen their cooperation in the energy sector

That is one of the contents stated in the Vietnam - Russia Joint Statement on outcomes of the visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the Russian Federation (from 5 to 8 September 2018).

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin affirmed their determination to cooperate in building the Vietnam Center for Nuclear Science and Technology as well as training Vietnamese students in majors related to the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes in the Russian Federation.

The two sides agreed that in the case that Vietnam restarts the plan to build the national atomic energy sector, Russia will be a priority partner in this field.

The two sides emphasized the prospect of cooperation in the power sector, particularly advantages of Russian companies when they participate in projects on modernizing previously built energy facilities with the support of the former Soviet Union and constructing new energy facilities in Vietnam, on the basis of complying with the laws of each country.

The two sides agreed to provide supports to the implementation of existing gas exploitation projects; supporting the Gazprom Group's plan to build a gas power plant in Quang Tri province and the NOVATECH’s plan to carry out a joint - project to build a liquefied natural gas terminal and a gas power plant in Binh Thuan province.
