Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highly appreciated the operation of AES Group in Vietnam over the recent years, particularly the completion of construction investment and successful operation of Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Plant. “Vietnam is a developing country, the demand for power is therefore increasingly growing up to meet the demand of production and development. Meeting this demand requires huge investment capital in parallel with modern technology to fit the requirements of environmental protection,” said Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung.

In the current power structure, hydropower makes up over 40%, the rest percentage is for thermal power. However, the hydropower has been already fully exploited and it cannot be further exploited anymore, so in the future, thermal power will play a key role. For coal-fired thermal power projects, the requirement is to use modern, eco-friendly technologies, ensured to not affect the daily life of the people in project areas. At the same time, the Government will also prepare a policy to develop gas-fired thermal power, renewable energy thermal power (solar, wind, etc.) to ensure adequate power capacity for growth.

Highly appreciating AES’s interest in projects of power development in Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to take the chair, together with relevant agencies to closely collaborate with AES to continue the discussion about and agreement on specific contents before submitting it to the competent authorities for approval.

Mr. Bemerd Da Santos affirmed that the Group highly appreciated the support and facilitation made by Vietnamese Government over the past time and said that the US Government has highly supported and facilitated energy projects which have been and would be performed by EAS in Vietnam.

Senior Deputy President and CEO of AES Group also affirmed the commitment to continue closely coordinate with relevant units and agencies to improve the efficiency of existing projects as well as expand their investment in energy projects, developing new power sources in Vietnam.

“AES commits to become a key partner of Vietnam in the field of energy,” said Mr. Bemerd Da Santos.

AES is listed among the 200 largest energy companies having the largest revenue over the world with more than 10,000 employees globally. The enterprise is currently the largest gas provider in Central America and the Caribbean.
