This is a critical milestone on the path toward testing and commissioning steps of power unit No. 2 (600 MW), with the aim of putting the power unit into commercial operation by the end of 2017.
Exhaust gas treatment systems, including Flue Gas Desulfurization by saline water - FGD, electrostatic precipitator – ESP, have been put into operation right since the time coal was combusted in the boiler, to secure environmental protection and no dense black smoke emitted from the stack during project testing and commissioning phase as well as when the Plant comes into official operation.
Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant project is one of the significant projects of the Government being invested by Vietnam Electricity and managed by Power Generation Corporation 3 / Vinh Tan Thermal Power Project Management Board.
With the total installed capacity of 1,200 MW (2 power units), Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant is the first large scale coal fired thermal power plant in Vietnam using super critical technology.
It is scheduled that the first power unit would be put into operation after 46 months of installation and construction (at the end of 2017), the second power unit would be operated 6 months after the first power unit operation (in the second quarter of 2018). The plant will be integrated into the national power system via a 500 kV synchronous power grid.
Upon completion, Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant will provide to the power system approximately 7.2 billion kWh per year, contributing to securing electricity supply to the socio – economic development of Binh Thuan province in particular and of Southern provinces in general.
