Winter-Spring crop 2024: EVN's hydropower reservoirs discharge 2.78 billion m3 of water to serve rice cultivation

According to the Department of Irrigation (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), at the end of the second phase of water collection for rice cultivation in the Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024 in the Midlands and Northern Delta region, the total discharge volume of hydropower reservoirs in this phase was 0.887 billion m3 of water. In total, in both phases of discharge, EVN's hydropower reservoirs discharged 2.78 billion m3 of water.

In phase 2, EVN performed power generation operations to raise water levels downstream as planned, while ensuring sufficient electricity supply for operating pumping stations. The Group's water discharge information was sent daily to the Irrigation Department and related agencies for coordination.

Specifically, EVN was operating Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang hydropower plants to supplement water for downstream areas from February 16, 2024. The average water level at Son Tay Hydrological Station reached 1.66m, the highest was 2.02m on February 20; at the Hanoi Hydrological Station, the average level for the whole phase reached 1.26m, the highest was 1.76m on February 21.

By the end of phase 2 (February 21), the total area being watered was 486,650 hectares/492,946 hectares, reaching 99% of the planned cultivated area.
