EVN Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh (left) chairs working session with NOVATEK delegation on afternoon of May 25
During the meeting, representatives of NOVATEK provided an overview of the Group’s capabilities and experience in the fields of natural gas and LNG, while expressing interest in exploring cooperation opportunities in Vietnam’s energy market. In particular, NOVATEK showed interest in areas related to the development of LNG-to-power value chains, including fuel supply, receiving and regasification infrastructure, and power plant projects.
NOVATEK is one of Russia’s major enterprises in the natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector. The company operates across the exploration, production, processing, and trading of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons, while also participating in the development of several large-scale LNG projects.
On EVN’s side, Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh shared information on Vietnam’s power development orientation under the revised National Power Development Plan VIII, in which LNG-to-power is identified as one of the key power sources during the energy transition period. He also discussed the requirements for developing the power system in a manner that ensures energy security while aligning with Vietnam’s emission reduction roadmap and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
EVN’s leadership noted that LNG-to-power projects need to be studied comprehensively in conjunction with receiving, storage, and regasification infrastructure, grid connection solutions, and practical implementation conditions in each region. For Northern Vietnam, LNG infrastructure development must consider geological conditions, seaport infrastructure, the potential establishment of LNG receiving hubs, and suitable gas supply solutions for power generation clusters.
The two sides also exchanged views on international experience in LNG development, organizational models for the gas-to-power value chain, as well as technical requirements for implementing gas-fired power projects in the context of Vietnam’s power system facing increasing demand for flexibility, stability, and load responsiveness.
NOVATEK representatives affirmed their readiness to continue working with EVN and relevant parties to further discuss technical solutions, cooperation models, and possibilities for participating in energy projects aligned with Vietnam’s development orientation.
