EVN President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan and representatives of EVN's relevant departments meet with delegation from German Bundestag's Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy on afternoon of 26 October.
During the meeting, the German delegation expressed its interest in gaining a deeper understanding of Vietnam's power system development strategy and plans to support the country's double-digit economic growth targets. The delegation also discussed Vietnam's anticipated requirements for battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the coming years.
In response, EVN President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan provided an overview of Vietnam's plans for expanding power generation capacity and developing transmission and distribution infrastructure to meet the country's economic development objectives.
He noted that conventional power generation projects typically require approximately five years to develop and complete. Against this backdrop, Vietnam is placing greater emphasis on accelerating renewable energy development.
Regarding BESS, the President and CEO explained that, under the revised National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII), energy storage systems are expected to be deployed at distributed locations near wind and solar power generation hubs or major load centers to support the reliable and efficient operation of the national power system.
Over the next five years, Vietnam is expected to deploy approximately 8,000–12,000MW of BESS capacity, of which EVN has been assigned responsibility for investing in approximately 2,000MW.
On this occasion, EVN President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan also expressed his sincere appreciation to the German Government, KfW Development Bank, and German organizations and enterprises for their longstanding cooperation and continued support for EVN.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Christian Freiherr von Stetten emphasized EVN's important role in the development of Vietnam's national energy infrastructure.
The Chairman of the German Bundestag's Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed Germany's readiness to provide advisory support and share its expertise in developing regulatory frameworks, technological solutions, and financing models for power grid development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to maintain regular communication and facilitate closer coordination between their respective technical teams, with a view to translating potential areas of cooperation into concrete initiatives in the coming period.
