During the meeting, Mr. Li Yinsheng provided an overview of CTGI's international investment activities and introduced the scale, capabilities, and experience of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG)—CTGI's parent company—in developing clean energy projects.

According to Mr. Li, CTGI is expanding CTG's international investment strategy, with Southeast Asia identified as one of its key target markets. He noted that Vietnam's energy sector offers significant opportunities, driven by strong electricity demand growth and substantial investment needs as the country continues its energy transition.

CTGI expressed particular interest in hydropower, pumped-storage hydropower, offshore wind power, and other renewable energy projects. Drawing on its extensive experience in investing in, constructing, and operating large-scale hydropower projects, as well as developing wind power, solar power, and energy storage systems in various countries, CTGI expressed its desire to establish a long-term partnership with EVN and jointly explore suitable investment opportunities in the future.

During the discussions, EVN Vice President Pham Hong Phuong provided an overview of Vietnam's power sector structure, the country's power system development strategy, and EVN's role in ensuring a reliable electricity supply while investing in power generation and transmission infrastructure.

He noted that the rapid growth of renewable energy in recent years has created new operational challenges for Vietnam's power system. In this context, flexible generation sources capable of providing balancing services, reserve capacity, and system support are becoming increasingly important.

Regarding hydropower, the Vice President observed that most of Vietnam's large-scale hydropower potential has already been developed. Future development will therefore focus not only on electricity generation but also on enhancing frequency regulation, peak-load support, reserve capacity, and the integration of variable renewable energy sources.

He also emphasized the important role of pumped-storage hydropower in energy storage, power balancing, and improving the safe and flexible operation of the power system as the share of wind and solar power continues to increase.

The two sides further exchanged views on offshore wind power, the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing hydropower plants, operational and maintenance experience, and potential investment cooperation in Vietnam and other international markets.

Recognizing the strong international expertise of CTG and CTGI, Vice President Pham Hong Phuong proposed that the two sides continue in-depth discussions on areas of mutual interest. As an initial step, they could organize technical workshops focusing on pumped-storage hydropower, the rehabilitation and capacity expansion of existing hydropower plants, and the development of renewable energy projects.
