EVN and RusHydro discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation, exchange experience, and apply advanced technologies in hydropower sector

During the meeting, Mr. Sergey Machekhin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of RusHydro, provided an overview of the Group's expertise and experience in hydropower investment and operation, water resources management, pumped-storage hydropower development, and the provision of engineering and technical consultancy services for energy projects.

RusHydro expressed its desire to further build on the long-standing cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in the energy sector. The company also reaffirmed its readiness to share experience and cooperate with EVN in studying solutions to enhance the safety, reliability, and operational lifespan of hydropower facilities.

One of the topics discussed was the potential application of advanced inspection and condition assessment technologies, including micro seismic survey solutions for evaluating geological structures, dam bodies, and hydraulic structures. According to RusHydro, these technologies can help detect anomalies within hydropower facilities, provide valuable data for safety assessments, and support the development of appropriate rehabilitation and modernization plans.

RusHydro also expressed interest in cooperating with EVN on studies and technical assessments of selected hydropower projects in Vietnam, while sharing its experience in pumped-storage hydropower development, workforce training, and the transfer of scientific and technological solutions in the fields of energy and water resources management.

Speaking at the meeting, EVN Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh highly appreciated the traditional partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, as well as the significant contributions made by Soviet and later Russian experts to the construction and development of many of Vietnam's key energy projects.

He proposed that the technical teams of both sides continue their discussions to further clarify the scope, technical requirements, effectiveness, and applicability of each proposed solution. Based on these discussions, appropriate areas of cooperation can be identified for further study and submitted to the competent authorities for consideration in accordance with Vietnamese law.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges, share information, and continue exploring concrete cooperation opportunities in hydropower, pumped-storage hydropower, dam safety, and the application of advanced technologies in the operation and management of energy facilities.
