Signing ceremony of State Investment Credit Agreement for Than Uyen 220kV– Lao Cai 500kV Transmission Line project between EVNNPT and VDB

The Than Uyen 220kV– Lao Cai 500kV Transmission Line project is invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), managed and implemented on behalf of the investor by the Northern Power Projects Management Board (NPMB), and will be handed over to Power Transmission Company No.1 for operation after completion. The project involves the construction of a new 220kV double-circuit transmission line from the Than Uyen 220kV Substation (Lai Chau Province) to the 500kV Lao Cai Substation, with a total length of 73.5 kilometers. Of this, the section in Lai Chau Province is 5.8 kilometers long (12 tower positions), located in Muong Than Commune; the section in Lao Cai Province is 67.7 kilometers long (144 tower positions), passing through nine communes: Nam Xe, Minh Luong, Duong Quy, Van Ban, Nam Chay, Vo Lao, Tang Loong, Bao Thang, and Xuan Quang.

Upon completion, the project will play a crucial role in strengthening the power transmission capacity, enabling the evacuation of electricity generated by hydropower plants in Lai Chau and Lao Cai provinces to the national power grid. It will contribute to ensuring a stable and continuous power supply for the region, reducing transmission losses, and enhancing the operational efficiency of Vietnam Electricity (EVN). Moreover, the project will make a positive contribution to local and regional socio-economic development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Khai – Acting Director of NPMB – emphasized that this is an urgent project playing an important role in ensuring energy security. He stated that today’s signing marks not only a concrete step in the project’s implementation but also demonstrates the trust and effective coordination between major state-owned organizations working together toward the shared goal of sustainable energy sector development.
