During July 2026 and the first seven months of the year, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units ensured a sufficient power supply to support socio-economic development and meet people's daily needs.

Electricity generation and supply situation: Total electricity generation and imports across the entire power system reached 32.03 billion kWh. Cumulative figures for the first seven months of 2026 reached 203.57 billion kWh. The proportion of mobilized power sources in the whole system in the first 7 months of 2026 is as follows:

- Hydropower: 47.37 billion kWh, accounting for 23.3%.

- Coal-fired thermal power: 106.52 billion kWh, accounting for 52.3%.

- Gas turbines: 16.21 billion kWh, accounting for 8%.

- Renewable energy: 25.96 billion kWh, accounting for 12.8% (of which solar power reached 16.89 billion kWh and wind power reached 8.06 billion kWh, accounting for 8.3%).

- Imported electricity: 7.21 billion kWh, accounting for 3.5%...

Customer service: EVN continued to refine technical solutions to supply 100% end-to-end online electricity services, ensuring synchronized connectivity with national databases. On the National Public Service Portal, EVN successfully launched all 12 electricity services (Level 4) online. Currently, EVN is collaborating with C12 (Ministry of Public Security) to transition to the new portal: four out of twelve services have been officially implemented, while the remaining eight are undergoing testing. On June 15, 2026, EVN launched a unified customer service application to expand customer care channels and provide a more convenient experience for customers.

Response and recovery efforts regarding rain and storm incidents: In July, two major natural disaster events occurred: Storm No. 1 (MAYSAK) made landfall in Quang Ninh on the night of July 4, 2026, while flash floods and landslides in the Northwest region (Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La, Tuyen Quang, etc.) - triggered by heavy rains starting July 16, 2026 - damaged the distribution power grid and disrupted electricity supply to customers (the 500kV and 220kV transmission grids operated safely without incident). In response to complex weather conditions and natural disasters, EVN and the Northern Power Corporation have directed their units to mobilize personnel and equipment to address storm-related damage to the power grid, rapidly restore electricity supply to affected customers, and ensure safety throughout the process.

Construction investment: Throughout July 2026, EVN continued to direct and urge its units to implement investments in power generation and grid projects in accordance with the 2026 plan objectives, particularly key projects designated by the Standing Committee of EVN's Party Committee and projects scheduled to commence or be completed in the third quarter of 2026.

In July 2026: (i) Leaders of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade held meetings with several localities to discuss growth targets and the implementation status of key power generation and grid projects, as well as to review the necessity of adjusting and updating Power Development Plan VIII; (ii) EVN leaders continued working with localities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the State Steering Committee regarding implementation progress and solutions to accelerate power projects under the revised Power Development Plan VIII;

Regarding the implementation of power generation projects: (i) The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Project continued equipment adjustments in preparation for trial operations; Unit 2 completed the steam blowing process and is targeting grid synchronization in August 2026; (ii) The Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Project completed survey work and is expected to finalize the technical design documentation in the fourth quarter of 2026; (iii) The Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project has completed the acceptance and commissioning of the flood-protection diversion cofferdam at the inlet channel, as well as the excavation of the foundation pits for the intake structure and powerhouse. Construction is continuing, focusing on concrete works for the powerhouse and intake structure, as well as slope stabilization along the inlet channel; (iv) Construction of the Bac Ai Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project is proceeding on schedule, with some components even running ahead of plan.

Regarding the power grid, in the first seven months of 2026, EVN and its member units commenced construction on 98 projects (two 500kV, 13 220kV, and 83 110kV projects) and energized 100 projects (five 500kV, 13 220kV, and 82 110kV projects).

Social welfare activities: In addition to their power generation, business, and investment activities, EVN and its member units contributed more than VND 22.9 billion to support people who have rendered services to the country and promote “Gratitude” activities in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947–July 27, 2027).

Some key tasks for EVN in August 2026

Regarding electricity generation and supply: In August, the Northern region enters the peak flood season and moves past the dry season; however, peak load demand (Pmax) in the North has occurred in August for the past two years. Therefore, to ensure an adequate power supply and achieve the 2026 economic growth target of “double digits,” EVN requires its units to continue to strictly, resolutely, and effectively implement the assigned tasks in accordance with the directions of the Government and the Prime Minister set out in Resolutions No. 168/NQ-CP and No. 169/NQ-CP dated June 27, 2026. At the same time, the units are required to ensure the effective implementation of disaster prevention and control and search and rescue efforts at the beginning of the 2026 storm and rainy season, in accordance with EVN’s direction in Notice No. 262/TB-EVN dated July 30, 2026, specifically as follows:

- Hydropower units: Continuously monitor and update weather and hydrological conditions; coordinate closely and exchange information with local authorities and relevant state management agencies; and strengthen monitoring and surveillance of dam and reservoir safety, as well as downstream warning systems. Coordinate closely with the NSMO to utilize water resources harmoniously and effectively.

- Thermal power units: Ensure adequate supplies of fuel and essential materials to maintain safe, stable, and continuous operations in the event of natural disasters, storms and heavy rainfall, or disruptions to transportation; intensify inspections and monitoring of equipment and production lines; proactively replace equipment at risk of unexpected failure; strictly comply with the directions of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and EVN regarding fuel preparedness for power generation; ensure sufficient fuel for operation and maintain fuel stocks at the prescribed levels, thereby securing adequate fuel supplies for both the current period and the long term. Closely coordinate with NSMO to arrange and register adjustments to the maintenance schedules of generating units at appropriate times.

- EVNNPT: Ensure maximum availability of transmission lines, equipment, and protective relays - including shunt reactors used for voltage regulation - and continue to strengthen reviews and the effective implementation of solutions to minimize incidents.

- Power Corporations/Power Companies: Develop specific plans and work with major electricity consumers to establish load-shifting or respond demand plans in response to extreme conditions caused by prolonged, intense heatwaves; Coordinate closely with the NSMO on electricity load management and forecasting, as well as on assessing the impacts of distributed energy resource development (particularly self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power systems) and the proliferation of electric vehicles; promote solutions for electricity conservation, energy efficiency, and load shifting, while remaining ready to mobilize customer-owned diesel generation when necessary. Coordinate closely with provincial and municipal People's Committees, government agencies, public offices, and local authorities to strictly and effectively implement programs and solutions for electricity conservation and rooftop solar development in accordance with the Prime Minister's Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026.

Regarding investment and construction:

- Power generation sources: Ensure the progress of key generation projects: (i) Quang Trach I Thermal Power Project: strive to achieve commercial operation for both units in 2026; (ii) Accelerating the investment preparation progress for the Quang Trach III LNG Project; (iii) Continuing to focus on the construction of the Tri An Expansion Hydropower Project and the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project according to the planned progress targets for Q3 and the whole year of 2026; (iv) renovating and upgrading the exhaust gas treatment systems of thermal power plants.

- Power grid: Strive to complete three 220kV and 110kV projects to ensure adequate power supply, while maintaining the schedule of medium- and low-voltage works serving the APEC 2027 Conference; complete the 220kV branch connection to the Dai Mo 220kV Substation; accelerate implementation to complete the energization of the 110kV outgoing feeders from the Vu Thu, Duong Kinh, Phu Tho 2, Yen Thuy, and Thuy Nguyen 220kV substations to reduce loading on nearby 220kV transformers; and complete the energization of the entire 305 MW BESS capacity in August 2026.

To help ensure a stable power supply for socio-economic development and daily life under all circumstances, EVN calls for continued cooperation and active support from the public and electricity customers by using electricity efficiently and avoiding the simultaneous use of multiple high-power electrical appliances during peak hours. The thorough implementation of electricity-saving measures will help minimize the risk of power outages and curb increases in electricity expenses.
