Quang Tri: Efforts to eliminate 'electricity white zones' along the Truong Son mountain range

15:08, 08/12/2025

Due to being deeply situated in the core of the Truong Son forest, the lack of electricity and telecommunications signals in remote villages and hamlets, such as Thuong Trach and Truong Son, has been a major barrier to the lives of the local people for many years.

Eliminating the "Electricity White Zones" gradually

To gradually eliminate the "electricity white zones," Quang Tri Power Company (PC Quang Tri) is fully focused on deploying the plan to supply electricity to 17 villages and hamlets lacking coverage for both communication signals and electricity, striving to complete the work before December 15, 2025, as directed by Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Pulling the low-voltage power line to supply electricity to the people of PLoang village

Survey results showed that many villages, such as A Ky, Cu Ton, Troi, Rin Rin, Hoi Ray, Nuoc Dang, Doong, Doc May, etc., are located between 6 and nearly 20 km away from the medium-voltage power grid. Based on this, PC Quang Tri established a plan consisting of two directions: extending the power grid to 7 villages and using generators combined with temporarily extending the low-voltage grid for the remaining 10 villages. The total investment is over VND 7 billion, along with an estimated annual generator operating cost of nearly VND 12 billion.

Determination for ethnic minorities to have electricity for daily life

Workers installed new light bulbs and electric panels in households

In addition to construction, during Customer Gratitude Month 2025, PC Quang Tri also organized the installation of indoor electrical systems and provided instructions on safe and economical electricity usage.

Bringing electricity to these underserved areas not only provides light and improved living conditions for the ethnic minority communities but also ensures communication activities, serves BTS stations, supports local management work, and promotes socio-economic development. With the efforts of the collective of cadres and employees and the cooperation of the local people, the goal of eliminating the "electricity white zones" in the Truong Son border region is gradually becoming a reality.

The people of the mountainous commune of Thuong Trach live in the core area of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, making the extension of the power grid very difficult. The population mainly consists of Ma Coong, Chut, Bru, and Van Kieu ethnic minorities. In 2016, residents here used solar power, but the capacity was small, only enough for basic household appliances. Currently, the national power grid has supplied electricity to the Thuong Trach commune center. Within Thuong Trach commune, electricity has been supplied to households in Arem village, Ban Ban, Ban But, Ban Ca Roong 1 and 2, Ban 51, Ban 61, Ban Khe Rung, and Ban Tuoc. Since the electricity flowed up to these high-altitude villages, the people in the villages and hamlets of the mountainous Thuong Trach commune have been very excited.
