The event was held on the occasion of the 38th Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO 38). Out of a total of 116 engineers being certified, there are 75 engineers from EVN's member organizations including EVNHCMC (44 engineers), EVNCPC (16 engineers) and EVNSPC (15 engineers).
According to Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Electricity Association, this certification has proved the efforts of EVN and its member organizations in investment in and improvement of the quality of human resources, including development of a crew of ASEAN professional engineers; at the same time this has demonstrated the growth, maturity and improved the prestige of Vietnam's power industry in the region.
To achieve the certificate of "ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer", the engineers must have a university degree in science/technology recognized in the country; at least seven years of working experience in the technical environment, including at least two years taking charge of important technical tasks; fluent in a foreign language (preferably English); and must meet the requirements of professional ethics and career development, etc.
Once recognized as ASEAN Professional Engineers, their information will be updated on the global database of ASEAN Engineer Directory. ASEAN engineers can easily exchange experiences with others in the region and internationally.
In 2004, the ASEAN Professional Engineer Registration Council of Vietnam piloted registration for the first 19 engineers. Up to now, 322 qualified engineers have been registered as ASEAN professional engineers in different professions including electricity, electronics and telecommunications, construction, mechanics, and information technology.
Particularly in 2020, despite impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council has selected, nominated 116 engineers to and been accepted by the ASEAN Engineer Registration Committee, the most from Vietnam ever.
