EVN's working delegation inspecting application of UAVs in management and operation of PTC2’s transmission lines
Recently, Mr. Dang Huy Cuong - Member of the Member Board of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and a working delegation have worked at Power Transmission Company 2 (PTC2) on application of science and technology in management and operation of transmission networks.
The delegation paid a site visit to supervise UAVs and video cameras controlled by PTC2 engineers to check and inspect the devices on the 500kV transmission network, to survey safety in the grid right-of-ways, to control the application of Fire Dragon (assembled by PTC2) to burn foreign objects entangled on power lines (such as kites, pieces of cloth, etc.) without needs of breaking the current.
The delegation observed the online surveillance camera system on the whole power line to detect possible risks affecting safe operation of the network such as wildfires, right-of-way infringement, landslide risks due to rains, storms, damages caused by lightning, etc.
Up to now, PTC2 has at its disposal 17 UAVs of all types (Altura Zenith ATX8, Phantom Series, Mavic 2 Zoom, "Fire Dragon" assembled by PTC2). UAVs help observe better larger areas of power lines, thereby help recognize and assess risks affecting the line operation, Director of PTC2 Tran Thanh Phong said.
Since December 2019, PTC2 has rolled out installation of video cameras along power lines to support remote power line inspection. Realizing efficiency and high applicability of power line cameras to thematic power line surveillance, PTC2 has installed cameras at all its affiliated power transmission companies. Up to now, PTC2 has installed 31 video cameras along its power network and connected them to the dispatching room to monitor remotely current situation and to give instructions when abnormal incidents occur on the power lines.
