Bringing electricity to Khmer ethnic people in Tra Vinh province

During the recent years, Vietnam Electricity has put great efforts into bringing the national power grid to serve the power demand of people in the remote rural areas of Tra Vinh province. Between 2011 and 2016, Vietnam Electricity had implemented three phases of the project for supplying electricity to the people those had not been electrified, particularly Khmer people, raising the electrified households of the whole province to 264,353 households, achieving 98.53% of the total households.

A lineman of Tra Vinh Power Company is installing power lines to supply the national grid electricity to each household.

After principally fulfilling the on-grid electricity supply to households in the province, Tra Vinh Power Company has been conducting improvement of electricity consumption quality of the people; including safe electricity consumption.

According to the Company’s survey, out of the total 155,151 households who buy electricity directly from the Company, more than 11,000 households using electricity via unsafe sub-connection after main meters, the ones who connect to the national power grid.

In the late 2016 and early 2017, Tra Vinh Power Company has performed two projects to eradicate the situation of unsafe sub-connection after main meters for poor and near poor households; with the total investment cost of more than VND 15.8 billion, and 5,360 households have been entirely financially supported the equipment and labour cost.

Tra Vinh Power Company has investigated to establish another project on eliminating the situation of unsafe sub-connection after main meters for the remaining 7,619 households in order to apply for funding from the Southern Power Corporation, which is more than VND 37.3 billion for implementation in the coming time.
