A leader of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said that, recognizing the special significance of APEC 2017 event to be held in Da Nang by the end of this year, EVN has instructed their subsidiaries to set up their response plans and carry out many investment projects in order to secure electricity supply to various locations of the Conference.

The Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) has been urgently completing projects for newly constructing, upgrading and rehabilitating the medium – low voltage network systems which are anticipated to be accomplished in the second quarter of 2017; upgrading the power grid in Hoi An city to reduce power loss and enhance electricity supply reliability to serve APEC 2017. In addition, EVNCPC has been implementing 220 kV network projects after Hoa Xuan, Ngu Hanh Son 110 kV substations so that these projects can be completed and put into operation on schedule in synchronization with the investment schedules of other new 110 kV substations; procuring two 250 kVA mobile generators as the standby generation sources to serve APEC event.
Mr. Ngo Tan Cu – Director of PC Da Nang said that all the projects serving the APEC 2017 week will be officially synchronously accomplished in July 2017. The total investment cost of these power projects is VND 1,100 billion; of which VND 300 billion is funded by EVN via EVNCPC; VND 200 billion is directly invested by EVNCPC; and the remaining amount is funded by PC Da Nang.
Beside urgently fulfilling power network projects, enhancing power line system examinations, remedying defects, upgrading the urban power grid, PC Da Nang is actively preparing power supply scenarios for this event.
According to Mr. Ngo Tan Cu, in September 2017, the city will practice a massive emergency drill which assumes that large power outage happens across Da Nang city. In this drill, PC Da Nang is requested to respond in the most timely manner and secure resuming electricity supply instantly to ensure that all the activities of APEC 2017 will take place smoothly as if no incident ever happens.
Up to now, Power Transmission Company No. 2 (under the National Power Transmission Corporation) has completed upgrading capacity of 220 kV transformers at Da Nang, Hoa Khanh 500 kV substations; finalized Ngu Hanh Son 220 kV substation with 220/110 kV transformer having capacity of 250 MVA, etc.; raising the total installed capacity of 220/110 kV transformers in Da Nang city to 1,125 MVA which is adequate to meet the peak load of the city in 2017 expectedly at 548.8 MW.
