The Ash yard of DAP - Vinachem Joint Stock Company in Hai Phong is piled high like a mountain with millions of tons, so far it has not been treated.

According to aggregated data from Vietnam Electricity, Vietnam Oil and Gas, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Groups and other thermal power plants, there are currently 29 operating coal-fired thermal power plants in the country. In 2021, the total amount of ash and slag emitted from thermal power plants across the country was more than 16 million tons. The emissions are mainly concentrated in the North (accounting for 64%), the Central (accounting for 25%) and the South (accounting for 11%).

By the end of 2021, the total amount of consumed thermal power plants’ ash and slag over the years nationwide is about 48.4 million tons, accounting for about 48% of the total emissions so far (an increase of more than 7% compared to the end of 2020).

Ash and slag are mostly used in areas such as leveling, a cement mineral additive, a concrete additive for irrigation, traffic (concrete roads in rural areas) and civil construction works (large block foundations with little heat), in addition, ash and slag are also used to partially replace raw materials for brick production (burnt and unburnt).

Although there are a step forward, up to now, ash and slag emitted from thermal power plants, chemicals and fertilizers are really a big deal in many localities, causing great environmental consequences that press many people.
