Duyen Hai 1 and 3 thermal power plants: Ensuring strict standards on environmental protection

Thanks to high-tech investment in environmental protection and the implementation of strict operation process, Duyen Hai 1 and Duyen Hai 3 thermal power plants have met the environmental standards of Viet Nam and the world.

According to leaders of Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company, together with ensuring the operation of Duyen Hai 1, Duyen Hai 3 thermal power plants (TPP) to meet the requirements of mobilizing power output of the National Load Dispatch Center, the Company always focuses on environmental protection. In particular, the control of the concentration of dust, SOx and NOx emissions of the two plants is strictly implemented from the stage of environmental impact assessment (EIA) when constructing the project.

Two plants are “strongly” invested by EVN in modern technology. For dust filtration, the plants are equipped with Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) with a dust filter efficiency of 99.7%, which can operate at any load level. This is also the technology used in many developed countries in the world.

With gas emissions, Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company has been invested and installed by EVN with SCR (Selective Catalytic Redution) system for NOx treatment by NH3. For SO2, EVN applies Sea-FGD technology, using seawater for degassing instead of limestones.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor Truong Duy Nghia - President of Vietnam Thermal Science and Technology Association, this is a technical progress. Sea water after SO2 degassing is considered non-toxic to the environment and ecology as the product of SO2  degassing is only sulphate salts. Synchronously, Sea-FGD technology does not generate solid waste of plaster, so the plant can minimize waste to the environment.

Clean, beautiful environment at Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company

Along with the investment in modern technology and equipment, the Company has issued the plant operation process, focusing on the environmental protection, emphasizing the “green living” awareness to every staff and employee. Thanks to the synchronous, efficient deployment of environmental protection solutions, the gas and dust emission of Duyen Hai 1, 3 always meets regulations of QCVN 22: 2009/BTNMT on thermal power industrial emission. These results are reflected in the public online monitoring parameters transmitted from two plants to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tra Vinh Province.

The two plants also meet the strict regulations on ambient air quality under QCVN 05:2013/BTNMT. The monitoring result of air environment in residential areas within 1km from the Duyen Hai Power Center in 2017 shows that NO2 concentration in 24 hours does not exceed 20mg/Nm3, much lower than the regulation of Vietnam (maximum 200mg/Nm3). This result also meets the strict requirements of many developed countries in the world under European Union, America, Australia. The monitoring result of SO2 concentration around the two plants in an hour is also below the 50mg/Nm3 limit, much lower than the maximum allowable concentration in Viet Nam (350mg/Nm3), meeting very strict requirements in countries such as USA, Europe, Australia, etc.

Compare quality of ambient air environment in Duyen Hai 1, 3 TPPs (in 2017) with regulations of Vietnam and other countries.
