EVN and Vinacomin signed a memorandum of cooperation to secure energy supply for economic development

On 23 April 2022, in Quang Ninh, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited had a meeting to discuss and sign a memorandum of cooperation to secure coal supply for electricity generation to serve the country's socio-economic development.

After discussing the situation of coal supply for EVN's thermal power plants in the first months of 2022 and the indicative coal supply plan for the remaining months of the year, EVN and Vinacomin have agreed: Vinacomin will strive to compensate for the undelivered coal amount in the first quarter according to the contracted volume (equivalent to about 800,000 tons) in the remaining quarters of 2022.

It is expected that TKV will supply about 300,000 tons for EVN's thermal power plants in the second quarter as compensation. The total volume of coal to be supplied in the second quarter will be 5.1 million tons. In April 2022 alone, an amount of about 1.8 million tons will be secured.

For the remaining months in 2022, Vinacomin is committed to supplying sufficient coal amount and EVN is committed to receiving the delivered coal amount according to the signed contract. In case there is a change in demand or supply capacity, the two parties will negotiate and agree later on.

EVN and Vinacomin have agreed to regularly coordinate in coal supply to EVN's thermal power plants in 2022; in handling problems arising during the coal supply process; discuss and agree on relevant issues and jointly report to competent authorities on issues beyond their authorities.

At the meeting, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN said: EVN and Vinacomin have long-term strategic cooperation, coordination and operation between the two groups been carried out regularly. In the current Vietnamese power system, coal-fired thermal power accounts for more than 40% of the system's electricity output. EVN alone owns more than 13,000MW of coal-fired power sources. Therefore, the supply of coal for electricity generation is very important for EVN to ensure electricity for the country's socio-economic development.

Through this signing ceremony, EVN wishes to coordinate better and more closely with Vinacomin to secure the coal supply for electricity generation and ensure electricity for the economic recovery and development of the country.

Well aware of the importance of coal supply for electricity generation to ensure the country's economic development, Vinacomin promises to supply sufficient coal for electricity generation in 2022, especially during the peak months of the hot season 2022.

The signing of a memorandum of cooperation today shows that the two groups are highly aware of the role of state-owned enterprises in the country's economy and affirm their great roles in regulating the market, realizing the mission assigned by the Party and the Government which is to collaborate closely to supply coal for electricity generation and ensure electricity for other economic sectors’ development.
