At the meeting, EVN’s Chairman Duong Quang Thanh and Vinacomin’s Chairman Le Minh Chuan shared the same view that over the past time the two groups had a fruitful and close cooperation for the common goal of ensuring national energy security, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
The two parties agreed to continue promoting the cooperation in the coming time, working transparently, complying with the provisions of law, strictly controlling sources and quality of coal to be supplied to EVN's power plants. The leaders of two groups also exchanged views on the cooperation possibilities in developing a number of power projects.
EVN’s Chairman Duong Quang Thanh spoke at the meeting
Since November 2019, EVN’s member units have signed coal supply contracts for long-term and for the year 2020 with Vinacomin.
The quantity of coal supplied by Vinacomin to thermal power plants of EVN by the end of May 31, 2020 had reached 8,531 million tons, or 98.4% of the contracted volume. The coal supply has been performed by Vinacomin in a relatively stable manner, meeting operation requirements of the thermal power plants.
However, due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuations in the imported coal market, the adequate supply of imported coal sources to mix with domestic coal sources may face difficulties, the quality of mixed coal is erratic.
Vinacomin’s Chairman Le Minh Chuan confirmed that the two groups would continue to cooperate closely in the near future
EVN proposed that Vinacomin should have a plan to produce, import and mix coal in order to supply sufficient coal for all thermal power plants according to the schedules stated in the signed contracts for 2020, as well as long-term ones.
At the same time, Vinacomin should coordinate with EVN to soon issue a set of coal quality criteria for power plants; strengthening control of coal quality, ensuring standardized quality in compliance with the requirements specified in contracts and in accordance with technologies of the thermal power plants.
Vinacomin also asked EVN to update and provide operation information of the thermal power plants and the actual needed amount of coal in the last months of 2020 so that Vinacomin can have the best preparation. At the same time, EVN's power plants are requested to coordinate and take advantage of the dry season weather conditions to receive coal in warehouses in a safe and convenient way.
In the first 5 months of 2020, to meet the electricity demand for socio-economic development and daily life of the people, EVN has highly dispatched coal fired thermal power plants. The electricity output generated from coal fired thermal power plants reached 58.09 billion kWh, up 16.8% over the same period in 2019. The adequate coal supply by Vinacomin for thermal power plants has contributed to ensuring electricity supply for the country.
