EVN's Member Board listens to the report on the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project

On 5 June 2020, in Hanoi, the Board of Members of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) listened to the consulting unit presenting a report on Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion project in the preparation stage of technical design. Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of EVN Member Board chaired the meeting.

Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung - Chairman and General Director of Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (PECC1) said: The project is located on the right bank of Hoa Binh hydroelectric dam. In which, the plant is situated in Phuong Lam ward; intake gate and canal are located in Thai Binh ward, Hoa Binh city.

The project of constructing new energy line consists of main items: trapezoidal-section Intake canal with reinforced concrete M250; Tower-like water intake gate with reinforced concrete M250; 2 pressured water tunnels with reinforced concrete M300, water-channel diameter of 11 meters, average length of each tunnel of about 800 meters.

Open-form hydropower plant with 2 units, capacity of 240MW each; trapezoidal-section channel leading to the downstream covered with reinforced concrete M200; connected to 500kV grid system.

In addition, the project shares items as the existing Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant, including reservoirs, raising weirs, spillways, etc.

The project is expected to be commenced in the fourth quarter of 2020 and be completed in 2024.

The representative of PECC1 presented the optimal plan of the location and structure of the intake gate; the optimal plan for the location of the plant and the water tunnel.

At the meeting, members of EVN's Board of Members, independent experts on hydropower contributed additional comments for the PECC1’s construction plans.

Concluding at the meeting, Chairman Duong Quang Thanh acknowledged the efforts by PECC1 and the PPMU 1 in developing and submitting the plan to the competent authorities for consideration and approval.

Chairman emphasized the special role of the project, asking PECC1 to receive comments from EVN leaders and independent experts to complete the related documents in June 2020.
