Also attending the delegation were Ms. Chiara Rogate, Mr. Tran Tan Hung, and Mr. Chu Ba Thi who are senior energy experts from WB Vietnam.
According to Ms. Zayra Romo, the WB desires to support the Government of Vietnam to achieve COP26 commitments through research and analysis to develop a clean energy transition roadmap, providing useful information to help EVN develop a climate action plan in the future.
EVN and WB exchange and discuss cooperation areas in the coming time
Specifically, Ms. Zayra Romo expressed her interest and information about the cooperation process between the two sides in the coming time, focusing on the list of investment programs and projects that the WB can support to prepare working content for the World Bank President with the Government of Vietnam is expected in March 2024; Updated information on the amended proposal to Decree 114/2021/ND-CP of the Government on management and use of ODA capital and concessional loans from foreign donors; project "Strengthening renewable energy integration systems"; and technical support projects.
In particular, the WB has worked with Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (PECC1) and provided technical assistance for offshore wind power research from non-refundable aid. The goal of the technical assistance is to identify potential areas and locations for offshore wind power development in the Gulf of Tonkin; Identify suitable areas to pilot offshore wind power projects in the Gulf of Tonkin; propose a wind power strategy and offshore wind power training plan for EVN and PECC1 staff.
EVN always values and wishes to continue to receive support and assistance from the WB, not only in terms of financial resources but also policy advice, technical assistance, and experience to help EVN realize its development goals.
EVN Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh said that the Group is promoting and preparing to invest in some power grid and power source projects, proposing WB consider the cooperation possibility in providing technical assistance/investment loans in the 2025-2030 period, including transmission and distribution grid projects, Quang Trach II Thermal Power Plant project, and offshore wind power plant project in the Northern region. EVN also proposed the WB consider some other technical cooperation and assistance contents.
On the occasion of the WB President's visit and work in Vietnam in March 2024, EVN also agreed with the WB on recommendations to remove difficulties and obstacles related to Decree 114/2021/ND-CP for EVN, directly with the project "Strengthening the renewable energy integration system".
At the meeting, the two sides also exchanged and discussed the cooperation potential and agreed to continue discussing and detailing the contents to be able to move forward with specific and effective projects the next time.
Over the past many years, the WB and EVN have built an extremely good and effective cooperative relationship, together achieving many important achievements in many fields such as Rural electrification, power grid, and solar power infrastructure development, as well as assistance to carry out credit rating assessments for EVN and its affiliated units.
